A report suggests that Whatsapp will stop working on older iPhone models and some android phones after December 2022. The changes will apply to as many as 49 smartphones, per the report. Thus users with older iPhones have to upgrade to iOS 12 or newer, and Android users will have to upgrade to Android OS 4.1 or later.
As per the report from GizChina, the platform will not support iOS 11, Android OS 4 and older from December 31. Moreover, on its blog, WhatsApp mentioned that- to keep up with the latest technological advances, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp.

What Happens If The Operating System Is No Longer Updated?
These phones are pretty old, and most are incompatible with new operating systems. Once WhatsApp ends support for these devices, the messaging service will stop working on them. Earlier, a report suggested that the messaging platform was supposed to stop service for iOS 10 and iOS 11 by October 24. Thus, this will force iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c users to upgrade to a newer iPhone model, as installing an iOS update that will support WhatsApp is not practical. The report further reveals that 89% of iPhone users have switched to iOS 15. At the same time, 4 per cent of users have iOS 13 or earlier versions installed on their phones.
