WhatsApp is introducing a new voice chat feature for groups similar to Discord calls. The feature allows users to initiate a group call that runs in the background. This can be helpful if you wish to talk to group members while still texting with them.
WhatsApp Introduces Voice Chat Feature For Groups
The feature works similarly to Twitter Spaces and Discord’s voice chats, where users can talk to each other in a group while still being able to text or browse within the app. When you start a voice chat, it sends a silent push notification instead of ringing everyone in the group.

The feature is now rolling out to the stable version and is only available for groups of 33 to 128 people. Moreover, it is only available for your primary WhatsApp device.

The voice chat will automatically end once everyone leaves and if no one joins for an hour or if the last person leaves it. The members who do not join the chat can see the participants from the chat header and calls tab.
How To Use This New Feature?
Like messages, all voice chats have end-to-end encryption for better privacy and security. To initiate a voice chat, open the group and click on the button in the top right corner to press the “Start Voice Chat” option. You can end the chat anytime by pressing the “X” button in the top right corner.

You can still keep texting with group members during a voice chat, allowing you to use voice and text simultaneously. The feature works similar to Twitter Spaces and Discord calls.
The voice chats feature debuted back in August with beta version 2.23.16.19. The Meta-owned company has been continuously adding new features to WhatsApp like Passkeys, Flows, Channels, Hide IP during calls, etc.
