  • Apple showcased its first wearable VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro, this year, and the product is yet to go on sale. However, a new report indicates that the Cupertino giant is already working on the Apple Vision Pro 2 with improved design and new features.

    According to a report by MacRumors, the upcoming Apple Vision Pro 2 will have a new design with minor changes. Furthermore, these include changes related to the button and speaker placements for a more ergonomic experience.

    The Vision Pro 2, which Apple will likely name the second-generation Vision Pro, has an internal codename, Project Alaska. The device identifier N109 closely resembles the original Vision Pro. However, it is likely to have different speaker and button placements.

    The Vision Pro 2 will replace the rounded corners for the speakers with a uniform flat area that covers the entire length of the headset. Moreover, the upcoming wearable headset documentation references an audio accessory, which is likely to be an external speaker.

    Furthermore, the report claims the company was considering making two variants of the Vision Pro 2: one with the same design as the original one and another with small holes to accommodate the speakers.

    Another change with the upcoming model is the improved straps on the back. The Vision Pro 2 will have a simpler strap similar to laptop bags, suggesting that it will likely have a lower price tag. These straps are easier and cheaper to produce, which could result in a reduced price tag for consumers.

    Like the previous model, the Vision Pro 2 will have an external battery pack to power the headset. It will have two micro-LED displays, one true depth camera, four computer vision cameras, 2 RGB cameras. 2 low light illuminators and semi-automatic interpupillary (IPD) adjustment.

    The hardware on the upcoming wearable will feature a wide range of cameras and sensors, including a compass, ambient light, magnetometer and gyroscope. In terms of connectivity, it will offer Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5 and ultra-low latency audio (ULLA).

    According to the report, the Vision 2 Pro is set to launch in late 2025 or early 2026. However, it also has a small disclaimer that this date is based on pre-production info and is likely to change before the headset reaches mass production.
