  • Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp keeps adding the latest features to improve user experience. Now, WhatsApp starts rolling out the “kept message” feature by which users will be allowed to keep the disappearing messages in group chats forever unless someone deletes them.

WABetaInfo spotted the “Kept messages” option on the profile info page in a recent beta. This is where you’ll find all the disappearing messages that you’ve saved. Everyone involved in that particular chat (like in a group) will be able to see this section to access these messages, but that continued access also means that anyone can still manually delete them.

WhatsApp’s latest feature can be used to keep messages from disappearing. The feature has appeared for some Android users running the latest beta version of both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. You can attempt to try it for yourself by downloading the WhatsApp beta from the Play Store.

    How It Works?

Whenever a user decides to keep a disappearing message, it will no longer vanish from the chat even after its expiration. However, users will still be in control over these messages as they can be deleted at any time. All kept messages will be listed in this section. This will help all users in a chat to easily find them later.

However, the feature is currently under Beta testing and is available for specific beta testers including the ones who are on the latest version of WhatsApp business (v.2.23.4.10). The platform will roll out this feature to all users in the upcoming updates.

When this feature becomes live, WhatsApp might also not allow users to mark messages as starred. The app may also remove the starred messages section within chat info for disappearing chats. Users won’t be able to add messages that are going to disappear in the starred section.
