After WhatsApp’s controversial Privacy Policy changes, alternative apps such as Telegram and Signal are gaining massive popularity. In a recent update, Telegram accidentally gave us a sneak peek at what the company is doing to lure WhatsApp users.
Released in an update on the Apple App Store, version 7.4 of Telegram let users migrate all user chats from WhatsApp to Telegram. However, upon realizing its mistake, the company quickly released another update, which removed all mentions of the feature.

However, tech geeks at 9to5Mac were able to use the migration tool before it was pulled. Also, this was not a gimmick, since the tool works perfectly. Taking a look at the release notes of update 7.4, we see that uses will be able to import chats not only from WhatsApp but other messaging platforms such as Line, KakaoTalk, and many more.
Since WhatsApp and Telegram both use the same technology to encrypt messages, this is not at all surprising at all. The export chats feature is already present in WhatsApp if you navigate to the More menu. You can use the export chat feature from there.
Using the iOS Share Sheet, you can export your chats to Telegram using the ZIP WhatsApp generates. You just need to point Telegram towards the contact or Group you want to associate your WhatsApp chats with. Some users report that they can still use the migration tool. However, Telegram has said clarified if it is working on all devices.
