Disney+ Hotstar New Restriction: Disney+ Hotstar, a prominent streaming platform, is allegedly considering implementing a new policy. The new policy restricts paying subscribers to access their accounts from a maximum of four devices. Insider sources claim that this measure is intended to curb password-sharing practices in India. Interestingly, this announcement comes shortly after Netflix’s recent decision to also limit password sharing in the same region.
Disney+ Hotstar: New Features
Currently, the Disney+ Hotstar streaming service permits users to log in from up to 10 devices, despite the website indicating a limit of four devices for account access. However, as per a Reuters report, Disney+ Hotstar has been conducting tests on a feature that would restrict the device count to four for premium accounts. The new log-in limitation may encourage customers to purchase their individual Disney+ Hotstar subscription plans. Moreover, the restriction will also extend to cheaper Disney+ Hotstar plans, limiting usage to only two devices.
At this time, Disney+ Hotstar has chosen not to provide any comments on this development.

This will only permit usage on two devices. As of now, Disney+ Hotstar has chosen to remain silent and has not commented on this development. Reuters reports that in addition to restricting account access, Walt Disney is currently in preliminary discussions to explore options. The option is to either sell its Indian digital and TV business or seek a joint venture partner. Industry data indicates that Hotstar, a leading streaming platform in India, boasts an impressive user base of around 50 million. Between January 2022 and March 2023, Hotstar dominated the Indian market with a substantial 38 per cent share of viewership.
The competitors Netflix and Prime Video held only 5 per cent each, based on data from research firm Media Partners Asia. The streaming services in India, including Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon, and JioCinema, have witnessed significant popularity.
