Review Summary

The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is the company’s latest mid-ranger that boasts a premium design and lightweight build. It offers specifications similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy M55 but with a new vegan leather finish.

But is it a mere rebrand of the Samsung Galaxy M55, or is there something more to it? I have been using the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G for a while now, and here’s my review of this latest mid-ranger.

The Samsung Galaxy F55 is one of the only Samsung phones with a vegan leather finish, and it feels good in the hand. The phone has a large 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and is bright and vibrant, typical of Samsung phones.

But how does the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 perform? How is the phone’s software experience? To find out, read my review of the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Design And Build

The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G stands apart from other mid-rangers because of its design. It has a premium faux vegan leather design wrapped around a thin and lightweight body. Despite packing a 5,000mAh battery, the phone feels lightweight to hold in the hand at just 7.8mm and 180 grams.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Design 1

The phone has a stitched pattern on both sides. I have the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G in Apricot for review, which looks strikingly beautiful. It is also available in Raisin Black for those who want a more minimal look. On the back, you get a minimalistic design with three camera circles and an LED flash similar to other Samsung phones. There is also a Samsung branding at the bottom etched in leather and the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is the only Samsung phone that I have reviewed with a vegan leather finish.

Coming to ports and placements, you get the volume rocker and power button on the phone’s right side. Similarly, the left of the phone is clean.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Top

The phone’s top has a microphone slot, and the rest of the design is clean.

At the bottom, you will be greeted by the USB-C port, speaker grille, and secondary microphone slot.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Camera

The Samsung Galaxy F55 sports a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS. In addition, you get an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle sensor and a 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front, you get a 50-megapixel selfie camera housed in a punch-hole cutout.

During the day, the phone can take decent shots with excellent dynamic range and detail. However, the colour tones are inconsistent as the phone takes natural photos at times and dull at other times.

Another major problem was the shutter lag, as the phone often took a long time to capture the image after the shutter button was pressed. This led to many blurry or pixelated shots, and I haven’t noticed this issue in any modern phones I tested in 2024. Hopefully, Samsung can fix it with future software updates.

When it comes to low-light shots, the output is mediocre at best and barely usable as the photos are often overexposed and have plenty of noise. Sometimes, it takes amazing photos with proper exposure and lighting, while it fails to do so at other times.

Selfie Sample

The phone’s selfie cameras take good photos with accurate skin tones and detail. Both front and rear cameras can shoot videos at 4K at 30 FPS, which is good. If the camera is your priority, then it’s best to consider other phones in this price range, like the Realme 13 Pro, Motorola Edge 50 Pro, and the Vivo V40.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Battery And Charging

The Samsung Galaxy F55 packs a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging support. However, unlike other Samsung phones, no charger is included in the box, which is disappointing.

The phone can easily last 5 to 6 hours on normal usage, including listening to music on Spotify, watching videos on YouTube, scrolling through Instagram reels and taking occasional photos. I also charged the phone with my 120W PD Charger, and it took almost an hour to top it up entirely. Most phones in this price range offer 80-120W charging speed with the charger in the box, so Samsung needs to improve its charging game.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Display And Audio

The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G boasts a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. The phone has relatively thick bezels on all four sides with symmetrical bezels on the opposite sides. Moreover, you get a centre punch hole cutout that houses the 50-megapixel front-facing camera.

The phone has a peak brightness of 1000 nits and a pixel density of 393ppi. The company has not clarified the type of display protection used on the phone.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Brightness

Despite having just 1000 nits of brightness, it is viewable under bright sunlight, and I faced no legibility issues. You also get an Eye Comfort Shield to protect your eyes in dark environments.

I enjoyed watching Season 2 of Marvel’s Hit Monkey as the colours are bright and vibrant. You also get Widevine L1 certification to enjoy 1080p content on OTT platforms, which is great.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Refresh Rate

Due to the 120Hz refresh rate, the phone feels smooth in day-to-day usage. You can choose between two modes: Adaptive and Standard. Adaptive automatically adjusts your refresh rate to 120Hz, while Standard sets it to 60Hz.

Quick Settings

For security, there is a fast and accurate under-display fingerprint scanner. In addition, there is a stereo speaker setup loud enough to fill an entire room. Unfortunately, unlike other phones in this range, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Performance

The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM. This 4nm chipset debuted in 2022 and is also found in phones like the Motorola Razr 40.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Gaming

The phone remained smooth During day-to-day tasks, but I encountered some occasional lags and stutters. Furthermore, it did get slightly warm and overheated while gaming. Talking about gaming, you can play BGMI at 60 FPS (Smooth and Extreme) and CODM at 60 FPS (Very High and Max). While the gameplay remains smooth, neither 90 FPS nor 120 FPS support is in either title, which is disappointing.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Benchmarks

Regarding benchmarks, the phone has a single-core score of 911 and a multi-core score of 2396 on Geekbench. Similarly, the Galaxy F55 gets an 80 per cent stability score in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test and throttles to 90 per cent in the 15-minute CPU throttling test.

It has an AnTuTu score of 585423 and a storage test score of 50599. The benchmark scores are nothing mindblowing as you get way better-performing phones in this segment, and the Galaxy F55 is better suited for casual tasks.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Software And UI

The Samsung Galaxy F55 runs on One UI 6.1, based on Android 14, and will receive four years of OS and security updates. Samsung has a good track record of timely updates, so you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Bloatware

However, unlike other Samsung phones, it offers no clean software experience. Plenty of preinstalled apps like Amazon Dailyhunt, PhonePe, MapMyIndia, Spotify, Netflix, TrueCaller, and Snapchat exist. You also get widgets that show advertisements, apart from annoying notifications from third-party apps. The Glance lock screen is also enabled by default, which can be helpful for some if you like seeing new wallpapers daily.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G Features

Thankfully, you can uninstall and disable these applications to get rid of them. Once you get past the bloatware, the rest of the software experience is good, as you get plenty of useful features, including Bixby, Samsung Labs, Multi Window, Gestures, One-handed mode and more.

Galaxy F55 Software

At this price point, the Samsung Galaxy F55 remains one of the few phones to offer four years of OS updates, so Samsung deserves some appreciation from the software department. Overall, OneUI is a featured-packed skin that provides an enjoyable experience if you look past the bloatware.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is a stylish trendsetter with a vibrant display and long-lasting software support. While its specs sheet certainly won’t wow anyone, the phone tries to offer a decent mix of everything, resulting in a balanced experience.

However, you will need to deal with the annoying camera shutter lag, heating issues and preinstalled apps. You will also need to buy a 45W charger separately for Rs.3,499 from Samsung as the company does not provide on in the box.

If you want a thin and lightweight Samsung mid-ranger without splurging much money, then the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is a good choice under Rs.30,000. Otherwise, phones like the Realme GT 6T, Motorola Edge 50 Pro and the OnePlus Nord 4 will offer better value for money with superior cameras and displays.
