Previously the company introduced gaming smartphones under its Red Magic line-up, but now the company has shifted to a midrange series dubbed Nubia Play. The device flaunts full-fledged gaming capabilities aimed for a more immersive gaming experience.
Nubia Play 5G specifications
The Play 5G looks very similar to the Red Magic 5G in design and we still get noticeable bezels at the front. The device boasts a shimmery gradient back panel, which looks very appealing, along with a camera array stacked vertically in the centre. The company moved to an in-display fingerprint scanner instead of the old-school rear mounted one.
The Nubia Play gets a 6.65-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display. It gets the same 144Hz refresh rate panel that we found on the Red Magic 5, along with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. We do get slight thicker bezels at the top and the chin instead of any form of notch or punch-hole mechanism. The display configuration is really impressive, getting all the top-of-the-line aspects that we can see on any smartphone panel.

Powertrain is however not that impressive as we get a Snapdragon 765G under the hood along with the Snapdragon X52 modem for 5G connectivity. The company still could have managed a Snapdragon 800 series chipset instead of this mid-range 5G chipset from Qualcomm. The internals are further boosted by 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Being a gaming-centric device, the device also boasts a cooling system (ICE2.5 rack-mounted) which features a 61mm cooling tube coupled with graphite gel and copper foil. This would help maintain temperature drop up to 16-degree Celsius.

Optics include a quad-camera setup at the back which includes a 48MP+8MP+2MP+2MP combination and a 12MP shooter at the front. Battery department is generous, thanks to the 5,100mAh battery pack which comes with 30W fast-charging support via the USB Type-C port. The device runs on NubiaUI 8.0 which is based on the latest version of Android 10.
