An update spotted on WABetaInfo (site tracking WhatsApp updates) hints that the instant messaging service will now double the limit of participants in groups for audio and video calls for more convenience of people. This feature can be seen in WhatsApp beta version for iOS 2.20.50.23. WhatsApp video call will now accommodate a greater number of participants. The limit of participants was 4 previously, but now it has increased it to 8. And there’s a condition for exploring this feature that you and your contacts should have an updated WhatsApp beta version.
For those who don’t know, Apple’s Facetime supports 32 people while Facebook Messenger can support up to 50 people in a call. So, a similar update in WhatsApp was also expected. Not only increasing the number of participants that can join audio and video call groups, WhatsApp previously added the ability to use the call button in groups to make group audio or video calls to all participants if the group has 4 or fewer participants.

The company is constantly updating its application in order to prevent divergence of audience towards other applications for tasks such as audio or video conferencing. This includes Facebook Messenger, Apple’s Facetime and also the recently grown Zoom App for group calling. This feature is presently for beta users only, on both Android and iOS. However, we can expect it to roll out soon on the stable version as well.
