  • WhatsApp has finally added support for passkeys, and you can now use it to log in to your account with a fingerprint, face or device PIN. Google recently announced that it is making passkeys default for all users on Android, making it easier for them to log in.

    Earlier WhatsApp users would need to enter an OTP and an option two-factor authentication PIN to log in to their account. Now, they can use their phone’s fingerprint sensor or face unlock to log in with passkeys.

    In a post on X (Formerly Twitter), WhatsApp announced it is rolling out support for the passkeys feature for all Android users. However, the option to use OTP and two-factor authentication will still be available.

    To enable passkeys on WhatsApp and open Settings. Navigate to Account->Passkeys->Create Passkeys.A pop-up will appear on your screen explaining how the feature works. Tap on continue, and you will receive another pop-up asking whether you wish to create a passkey for WhatsApp.

    Press continue and use the screen lock to generate a passkey for WhatsApp. You can now manage your passkeys from this menu and revoke them anytime.

    The passkeys feature is currently available for WhatsApp beta users running on version 2.23.22.10. It might be a while before the feature debuts on the stable channel for all users.

    Google recently announced that it is making passkeys default on Android, with third-party apps like WhatsApp, Uber and eBay also adding support for it. Passkeys are a more secure and safer alternative to passwords that use your biometric, such as fingerprint or FaceID, to log in.
