Popular music streaming service Spotify is making changes to its plan for free users in India. Spotify is removing key features for free users in India, which might affect your music listening experience. It is now restricting these features for free users in India starting today.

If you are a Spotify free user, the company is removing the ability to repeat, rewind the song, and return to the previous song. Furthermore, it also restricts users from rearranging songs in a playlist or turning off the ‘smart shuffle’ option. You cannot even choose a specific song part to listen to.

These changes are similar to the ones implemented by the streaming service in Brazil. Furthermore, it also plans to display messages in the app to inform users why they cannot access certain features.

The smart shuffle mode will now be the default method to stream songs in the free tier. This feature adds recommended songs to your queue that are not part of your playlist. You can no longer enjoy the regular shuffle feature as a free user.

Spotify Subscription Plans Price In India

Spotify debuted in India in February 2019 and offers the cheapest subscription plan in the country, starting at Rs.119 monthly. It is also one of the few countries where the company provides mobile-only mini-plans for Rs.7 per day and Rs. 25 per week. There is also a duo plan that includes access to two people available for Rs.149 and a Family Plan with six accounts at Rs.179 per month.

It has hiked the subscription prices in various countries such as the US, Canada, Australia and Germany, but there are no such plans for India. The company’s primary revenue source is subscriptions, but India has yet to emerge as a meaningful contributor.

However, the streaming platform has no plans to move to a subscription-only service, and there will be no restrictions on streaming hours or song selection for free users. There will be ads for free users, and Spotify believes this new change will streamline the experience for free users across all countries.
