Samsung One UI 4.0 Key Features
We have summarized the key features and offerings of Samsung One UI 4.0 below. It will help you get a grasp of what you can expect when your phone is compatible with the update.
Improved UI
Like every One UI upgrade of the past, Samsung One UI 4.0 comes with some design changes that enhance user performance by making the overall UI smoother and faster. The new Add media to home page options in the home screen settings lets users choose to add a Google discover page or a Samsung free.
Further, the widget section is stacked vertically instead of horizontal placement. This is very similar to the Android 12 widget look. A new charging animation has been introduced too. Further, One UI 4.0 supports dark mode for the wallpaper to give a consistent look when the device is set to dark mode.

Color Themes
Just like in Android 12, the Samsung One UI 4.0 has colour themes where the OS extracts colour pallets from the wallpaper. Users can choose between the colour themes that will be applied to the entire UI. This feature is in its Beta stage and is not as effective as in Android 12.
New Privacy Features
Considering the fact that One UI 4.0 is based on Android 12, Samsung has tried to include many of the improved privacy features that come with Android 12. The new permission history under the privacy settings lets users check the app usage permissions over the last 24 hours. For sensitive permissions like Camera, Location and Microphone, One UI 4.0 stores data for as long as 7 days.
The new privacy indicator informs users whenever an app tries to access cameras or microphones. There is an indicator in the top right corner of the screen for such purposes. Under privacy settings, there are toggle buttons for giving permissions for camera and microphone access. Users can revoke microphone and camera access permissions for all apps by using this toggle button.
Multi-Window Support
The multi-window support feature allows users to force split-screen view and pop-up view on apps even if the apps do not support this feature.
RAM Plus
Virtual RAM is one of the up and rising popular features present for phones. Samsung is looking to introduce this feature with their One UI 4.0 update. This feature makes use of external storage to improve the overall app performance of the phone. However, we do not have the list of phones which will be able to implement this feature.
Extra Dim
One UI 4.0 has an extra feature called ‘Extra Dim’ that lets users dim the screen beyond the minimum brightness.
Camera and Gallery
One UI 4.0 introduces quite a few changes in the camera as well as the gallery app. In Photo mode, a user can start recording simply by touching and holding the shutter button. Dragging the finger along the lock icon lets users continue recording. In Video mode, simply touching the record button will start recording. While scanning documents, One UI 4.0 allows the user to zoom in to edit the document.
One of the most refreshing features added to the Gallery app is that users can now revert an image back to its original form even after saving it. Users would be able to edit the date, time and location of an image.

Samsung Keyboard
The new keyboard that comes with One UI 4.0 will allow users to get emojis, GIFs, and stickers directly from the keyboard with a single button. It will allow users to combine emojis and add animation using the keyboard. The writing assistant that comes built-in with the keyboard is powered by Grammarly.
Lock Screen and Always-On Display
There have been a few changes in the lock screen in Android 12 and Samsung has taken inspiration from it while designing One UI 4.0. The media controls are new and users can make changes to the audio output from the lock screen. Further, app-dependent customized controls are provided to the users.
Users can also choose to add a recorder widget to the the lock screen for creating voice memos without unlocking the phone. The Always-on-display or AOD feature has new animation stickers that can wake the phone up whenever there is any notification.
