Poco Partners With Airtel To Launch Cheapest 5G Phone In India

Poco has announced a new partnership with Airtel to launch India’s cheapest 5G phone soon. The company’s CEO Himanshu Tandon has revealed on X (Formerly Twitter) that the company will bring the most affordable 5G smartphone in the country. Himanshu Tandon, the CEO of Poco, has posted on X (Formerly Twitter) that Poco will soon enter into another partnership with Airtel. The company has previously collaborated with Airtel to offer smartphones exclusive to the carrier.

Furthermore, Himanshu also revealed that the phone will be an Airtel version of an existing smartphone and will be the Poco M6 5G Airtel Edition. In addition, the Poco M6 5G Airtel Edition could be the cheapest 5G device in the country with subsidized plans and benefits exclusive to Airtel users.

This will be similar to the Poco C51 Airtel Exclusive Edition, which arrived last year with free data and additional benefits. The company is likely to carrier lock the phone for Airtel SIM-only users to subsidize the cost, similar to phones in the US.

The main advantage of this strategy is that it allows the company to target consumers using a specific telecom network to buy a budget smartphone at a lower price. Poco could bring a more affordable version of the Poco M6 5G to make it the cheapest 5G smartphone in the country, which currently starts at Rs.10,499 for the 4GB+128GB model.

Poco M6 5G Specifications

The Poco M6 5G sports a 6.74-inch IPS LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the phone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass for protection and a peak brightness of 600 nits.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ powers the phone paired with up to 8GB of RAM. It runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 13 and has up to 256GB of storage.

The phone has a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 0.08-megapixel AI lens for optics. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
