OnePlus Apologizes After Confirming OnePlus 12R Uses UFS 3.1 Instead Of Advertised UFS 4.0

The controversy began when users on Twitter found out via benchmarking app AnTuTu that the OnePlus 12R uses slower UFS 3.1 storage on the 12GB+256GB model instead of the claimed UFS 4.0. This huge revelation outraged OnePlus 12R buyers who purchased the device, believing it was using UFS 4.0 storage.

This led OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu to apologise for the “error” and admit its mistake. The company introduced a new software algorithm called Trinity Engine to enhance performance, which led the company to believe it was using UFS 4.0 on the OnePlus 12R.

“Due to an error, we stated that the storage enhanced by Trinity Engine would be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1” said Liu.

The OnePlus President asked customers to contact customer support for help starting February 15 as the company is still planning its next steps. It remains unclear whether the company will issue any refund or voucher to compensate users who were misled due to this “error” on its behalf.

The OnePlus 12R storage fiasco has definitely affected the credibility of OnePlus as a brand, with users on X (Formerly Twitter) starting a boycott campaign and listing the company’s previous misleading claims.
