While Samsung is the primary manufacturer of foldable smartphones, the category is far from exclusive, with more OEMs joining the fray with each passing year; OPPO, Vivo, Huawei, and Honor all have at least one model on the market. Then there’s Motorola, which has already released two generations of the clamshell Razr line, with more on the way. Following that is codename Maven. A flagship-class device with top-tier specs set for a summer release and shown here for the first time.

Maven, which has been completely redesigned, resembles the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G more than the Motorola Moto Razr or Motorola Moto Razr 5G. It attempts to up its imaging game with dual rear cameras, as Samsung has done with Flip, by being slightly boxier and more squared off than its predecessors (while also eliminating the chin and relocating the fingerprint sensor to the power button).
These cameras feature a 50-megapixel, f/1.8 primary shooter, as well as a wide-angle and macro sensor with a native resolution of 13-megapixel. Its selfie cam is a 32-megapixel punch hole module on the inner, folding FHD+ display.

Motorola is planning to release two versions of the handset: one with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-chip and another with the yet-to-announce Plus variant of that chipset (SM8475).
However, given the reported delays in the delivery of the latter SoC. It’s unclear how Moto intends to proceed with the SKUs that include it. There will be several memory configurations available, including 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.
The next Razr, which will be available in China in late July or early August. It will come in two colorways — Quartz Black and Tranquil Blue. Before going global, it promises to deliver the same significant generation-to-generation changes. We’ve come to expect from other early entrants to the foldable category. Along with the premium pricing that usually comes with them.
