Google has introduced the Car Crash Detection feature for its Pixel phones in India. This feature made its debut in 2019 and can detect when a car crash takes place. It was initially available in the USA and is now available in five more countries, including India.
Google Car Crash Detection Now Available In India
The Car Crash detection feature is now available in 20 countries, including 5 new ones: Austria, Belgium, Portugal and Switzerland.

However, there’s a catch since this feature is limited to only Google Pixel 4A and newer Pixel phones despite older phones such as the Google Pixel 3 supporting it. Furthermore, it is available in only 11 languages.
How Does It Work?
The Google Car Crash Detection feature can share your location with emergency service in case of an accident. The feature is found in the Personal Safety app on Pixel phones.

It combines the phone’s location, sensors, and nearby sounds to detect a crash. You will need to allow location, physical activity and microphone permissions for the app to function correctly.
The Car Crash Detection feature will automatically call emergency services such as 112 in India and share your location with them. Furthermore, anyone who picks up your phone can check emergency information, such as your blood group, on the lock screen.

Once the phone detects the crash, it will start ringing and vibrating loudly. You get 60 seconds to respond to the alert by either swiping “I’m OK” or “Call 112”.
After it dials the emergency number, you will get three prompts to choose from: Medical, Fire and Police to alert the emergency services. Moreover, the Car Crash Detection feature can notify emergency contacts you selected in the Personal Safety app.

Do note that this feature might not work at all times, and you may not be able to connect with emergency services in case of poor network connectivity. However, it is still useful and proves to be a lifesaver during accidents.
