Apple Shipped Most Smartphones in Q4 2021: Canalys Report

When it came to the number of smartphones sold worldwide in Q4 of 2021, Canalys said Apple was the best. Despite supply chain issues and increased coronavirus cases, Apple sold 22 per cent of the world’s cellphones in the latest quarter. Samsung came in second. Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo rounded out on the top five with 12 per cent, nine per cent and five per cent respecctively.

In a report by Canalys, Apple finally beat Samsung to the top spot in the sales of smartphones. This was thanks to many people buying the Apple iPhone 13 series. Apple saw “unprecedented iPhone performance in Mainland China,” according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The report says that Apple aggressively priced its flagship devices to keep their value strong.

In addition, the pandemic affected the company’s supply chain. This led to production cuts and longer wait times in some markets. However, the report says that the supply chain appears to be recovering.

According to the report, Samsung stands in second place. It had 20 per cent of the world’s smartphone shipments in Q4 2021. The South Korean smartphone company had made progress since Q4 2020 when it was responsible for 17 per cent of global smartphone sales. Meanwhile, Xiaomi was in third place, with 13 per cent of phones sold worldwide. Oppo and Vivo finished in fourth and fifth with nine per cent and 8 per cent of the votes.

Bloomberg reported in December 2021 that Apple told its suppliers that it didn’t think customers would be interested in the company’s new iPhone 13 series after they had to wait for a long time. However, the report said that the Cupertino company thinks supplies will improve in 2022. A Bloomberg report from a few years ago said that Apple had to cut production plans for the iPhone 13 by 10 million units because of a global chip shortage that has led to a lack of iPhone parts.

The Canalys report says that smartphone manufacturers are adapting to the problems caused by a global shortage of semiconductors. The report says that this shortage isn’t expected to get better until the second half of 2022. Smartphone makers are to be changing the specifications of their devices to use the available parts. According to the report, big companies will be able to get by with moves like focusing on the best-selling phones and releasing new products over a more extended period.
