Apple Launches iPhone 15 and 15 Pro Series: Price, Specs

Apple finally unveiled its latest iPhone 15 series at the Wonderlust launch event today. The new iPhone lineup includes the Apple iPhone 15, the Apple iPhone 15 Plus, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, which were announced at the launch event.

The iPhone 15 series is a major upgrade, with new features such as USB-C across the entire lineup. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will get Dynamic Island, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have a new Action Button and Titanium Chassis.

Apple iPhone 15 and Apple iPhone 15 Plus Specifications

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus launch event revealed the phone will feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED displays, respectively. Slim bezels surround the display, and the pill-shaped “Dynamic Island” cutout has replaced the notch. The screen supports Dolby Vision and True Tone with a peak brightness of 2000 nits and an HDR brightness of 1600 nits. This is almost double the 1200 nits of brightness found in its predecessor.

There is a Face ID sensor on the front but no ProMotion screen, as both devices still ship with a 60Hz display. The screen has a Ceramic Shield, which Apple claims is tougher than any smartphone glass. You will also find a new glass back design with colour-infused materials on the back. The aluminium frame now uses 75 per cent recycled aluminium.

iPhone 15 And 15 Plus Get Upgraded Processor

The iPhone 15 runs on the A16 Bionic chipset and is based on a 4nm process with 6 CPU cores and 5 Core GPU. It has two high-performance and four high-efficiency cores that consume less power than the iPhone 14. This new processor has 40 per cent better GPU performance than the iPhone 12.

There is a new second-generation Ultra Wide Band chip that can connect with other devices that are three times farther away. It offers more precise location sharing in crowded locations, and the new Voice Isolation feature can remove the background noise from your surroundings.

Both phones are available in 128,256 and 512GB variants. They run on the stable version of iOS 17 with support for e-SIM,5G, Satellite and Wi-Fi-6 connectivity. The company also offers roadside assistance via satellite connectivity, so you can share your location with a roadside assistance provider to get help in isolated areas. Apple announced at the iPhone 15 launch event that these services will be free for two years with the 15 series.

The iPhone 15 series will also be the first to switch to USB-C, so you can charge all your Apple products using a single cable. It has finally ditched the lightning port after 11 years, and the company has introduced USB-C accessories, including MagSafe and wired earbuds.

iPhone 15 And iPhone 15 Plus Get New 48-Megapixel Camera

Both iPhones now ship with a new 48-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. This is a significant upgrade from the 12-megapixel sensor on the iPhone 14 lineup. It has f/1.6 aperture and Sensor-Shift OIS. The company claims it can capture four times images in four times higher resolution, and the new Photonic Engine offers better portrait capabilities.

The 12-megapixel ultrawide lens that can capture 2x optical shots. A new Smart HDR feature can intelligently distinguish between the subject and the background to maintain true-to-life colours.

The company is introducing new Photo and Depth Controls to change the subject’s focus after taking the photo. The phone generates 24-megapixel shots in its default mode using computational photography with the new A16 Bionic chip.

Apple claims the iPhone 15 can last all day, offering 20 hours of video playback. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Plus packs an even larger battery that can last 26 hours on video playback support. It can charge up to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes using the 20W USB-C Power Adapter. There is also support for 15W MagSafe and 7.5W Qi-wireless charging.

The iPhone 15 starts at Rs.79,900, and the iPhone 15 Plus retails for Rs.89,900 for the 128GB variant. The iPhone 15 is available in Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue and Black colours. The 256GB and 512GB variant of the iPhone 15 retail for Rs.89,900 and Rs.109,900, respectively.

Comparatively, the iPhone 15 Plus will be available for a price of Rs.99,900 for the 256GB variant and Rs.1,19,900 for the 512GB variant. Both phones will go on sale starting September 22, with pre-orders beginning at 5:30 PM on September 15.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro And iPhone 15 Pro Max Specifications

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have received significant upgrades across the board. Both phones now come in aerospace-grade titanium chassis with anti-corrosion properties. Apple claims these are the lightest ever Pro models, with titanium having one of the best strength-to-weight ratios.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR displays, respectively. These feature Pro Motion support, offering adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. Both phones feature the new Apple A17 Pro bionic chipset based on a 3nm process, which the company claims is the fastest processor on any smartphone. It has a new 6-core “Pro Class GPU” that offers 20 per cent faster performance.

Apple has collaborated with developers like Ubisoft and HoYoVerse to take advantage of the A17 Pro’s performance. Console titles like Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village will also be playable on the iPhone.According to the Apple iPhone 15 launch event announcement, upcoming AAA titles like Assassins’s Creed Mirage will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro series in early 2024.

There is also hardware-accelerated ray tracing support for immersive graphics games. It offers 4x time faster ray tracing performance than A16. Like the iPhone 15, Apple has added a new U2 ultra wideband chip on the Pro models, enabling better FindMy capabilities.

iPhone 15 Pro Model Has A New Customizable Action Button

A new Action button has replaced the notifications slider, which works similarly to the Apple Watch Ultra. It is customizable, meaning users can assign to different functions, such as opening a camera or toggling the flashlight on their device.

There are nine mappable functions: Silent Mode, Focus, Camera, Flashlight, Voice Memos, Translate, Magnifier, Shortcut and Accessibility. It is set to toggle between the Silent and Ring modes by default, but you can customize its utility according to your liking.

The iPhone 15 Pro series has also transitioned to USB-C and runs on iOS 17. It also has a new USB 3 controller with 10GB throughput for faster data speeds. This will enable up to 20 times faster file transfers with an optional USB 3 cable.

The iPhone 15 Pro features a new 48-megapixel primary camera with a larger sensor than its predecessor. Users can now shoot in 48-megapixel HEIF apart from ProRaw formats. Photos will be saved in a 24-megapixel default mode. The new Photonic Engine can capture better low-light photos with great detail, whereas Smart HDR can take brighter images with better contrast and broader dynamic range.

There is a new 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor and 12-megapixel telephoto lens with support for 3x optical zoom on the iPhone 15 Pro and 5x on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Users can choose from three focal lengths: 24 mm,28mm, and 35mm.

Both phones can also record 3D Spatial Video for an immersive experience, which can be viewed on the Apple Vision Pro. They can also shoot video in ACES (Academic Colour Encoding System), the highest quality video format on the phone. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E,eSIM, 5G, Thread Radio and Satelite connectivity.

The iPhone 15 Pro can last up to 23 hours of video playback, whereas the 15 Pro Max offers up to 29 hours of video playback time. They support 20W wired charging, 15W MagSafe Wireless charging and 7.5W Qi Wireless charging.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max Price In India

The iPhone 15 Pro will start at Rs.1,34,000 for the 128GB variant and Rs.1,44,900 for the 256GB model. You can purchase the 512GB model for Rs.1,64,900 and the 1TB model for Rs.1,84,900.

On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will retail for Rs.159,900 for the 256GB variant and Rs.1,79,900 for the 512GB model. The top-end variant with 1TB of storage will sell for Rs.1,99,900.

Both phones will be available in Black titanium, White titanium, Blue titanium, and Natural titanium colours. The pre-orders for both devices will begin September 15 at 5:30 PM, and the phones will be available starting September 22.
