Right now, Android allows you to open two apps at the same time. But Android 16 might let you open three apps at once.
In OnePlus’ Open Canvas, two apps take up 90% of the screen, and a third app stays in a small 10% section. You can tap on the smaller app to make it bigger, making it easy to switch. Google seems to be creating a similar feature for Android 16.

New Split-Screen Mode Found in Android 16 Developer Preview
A new split-screen feature was found in Android 16 Developer Preview 2 (DP2). Android expert Mishaal Rahman tested it on a Google Pixel phone, but the feature is not fully working yet. Right now, it does not split apps properly or work smoothly.
Google is still working on this feature, and we don’t know if it will be ready for the Android 16 launch. If it is finished on time, all Android devices could get this new multitasking system, including Samsung, OnePlus, and other foldable phones.

Android 16 Launch Date: When Will It Come Out?
The Android 16 launch is expected in mid-2025, with the final version coming out later in the year. If Google completes this new split-screen mode, it will be added to Android updates for supported devices.
