Amazon has removed high-quality videos and audio features such as Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos for its standard users. Furthermore, to access these features, users must pay an extra $2.99 per month apart from their Amazon Prime subscription charges.

Amazon spokesperson Katie Barker informed Verge in a statement, “Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos capabilities are only available in the ad-free option on relevant titles.” This confirms that Amazon has deliberately removed the features for ad-supported users on Prime.

German outlet 4K Filme reported the changes as it noticed content being shown in HDR10 with Dolby Digital 5.1 on the platform instead of Dolby Atmos on their smart TVs.

Amazon previously announced it is introducing ads in Prime Video with a separate tier for those preferring an ad-free experience, and now features like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos will be exclusive to this tier.

Currently, the ad-free tier is only available in select regions, and there is no clarity on whether the streaming giant would implement this change in India. Amazon Prime Video membership costs Rs.1,499 yearly, Rs.299 monthly, and Rs.599 for three months.

Furthermore, there is also an India-exclusive Prime Lite that costs Rs.799 per year. It offers most features of the standard Amazon Prime subscription with free delivery and 720p video streaming with ads.
