Auto Expo 2025: Summing It Up
  • Finally, after waiting for two years, the most awaited Auto Expo Motor Show 2025 is back. The biennial Motor Show is the go-to destination for Automobile enthusiasts and fans alike. It is a one-stop show for car fanatics. It offered everything, from gas-guzzling sportscars to powerful electric cars that zip past you before you can even blink. So tighten your seat belts and rev your engines as I take you through all the exciting things I saw at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.

Auto Expo 2025: Flying Cars Are Finally Here! (Well Almost)

    Flying Taxi

To start with, perhaps the most exciting and underrated showcase of the Auto Expo was the Air Taxi by Sarla Aviation. While still in its prototype stage, the company showcased India’s 1st Air Taxi that can take off and land vertically. This means you can say goodbye to the hectic traffic on your daily commute as your future Ola/Uber driver swoops in a flying taxi. It may not be as thrilling as Ron Weasley’s flying Ford Anglia in Harry Potter. But, it sounds fun to soar the skies and arrive at work in style.

It can reach speeds up to 250 km per hour and has a range of 160 km based on the existing battery tech. It can hold six passengers and has a 680 kg max load. That’s the highest payload for an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle). The company plans to launch its service by 2028 in Bangalore and eventually expand it to Tier-1 cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Pune.

The Future Is EVs And Hybrids

Ola S1Z At Auto Expo 2025

The main theme of Auto Expo 2025 is sustainability and a greener future. Most of the brands are switching to electric, hybrid or cleaner fuels like CNG or Ethanol. All major automakers are shifting to EVs. Whether they are powerful trucks or three-wheelers designed for narrow lanes

Besides startups like Ola and Aether, who revolutionized the EV market. I saw brands like Eicher, Isuzu, Ashok Leyland, and Maruti seeking a share of the pie. Charging infrastructure and battery disposal in India is still at a nascent stage. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to see brands woo Gen Z consumers by making the switch to renewable energy.

    Oh KIA-Ye Tune Kya Kiya?

    Kia Syros

South Korean brand KIA, the sister brand of Hyundai also showcased some rather interesting cars at the Auto Expo 2025. The company unveiled four new models including a facelifted Kia EV6 apart from the new Kia Carnival Hi-Limousine and the Kia Syros.

    Kia Hi Carnival Interior

The Hi-Carnival is available in a six-seat variant and has a massive roof at the top with ambient lighting. But this is what makes all the difference and makes you go WOW. It has a starlight roof that can provide a mini constellation-like look once you turn on the lighting.

    Battery Swapping/Leasing Is The Future

    Battery swapping Activa e

Another interesting concept that I saw at Auto Expo 2025 was the swappable battery. Instead of purchasing a scooter or car at full price, why not simply lease it? The MG Astor and the Honda Activa e are proof of this concept. Honda says that it will only sell the EV in tier 1 cities like Mumbai, New Delhi and  Bengaluru where it plans to establish more than 250 swapping stations.

    Honda Battery Swapping Station

Buyers will need to pay a monthly fee of Rs.2,000 to swap their batteries at the station instead of recharging them. Furthermore, the Activa e is the first electric scooter from the Japanese brand and it has a range of 102 km. Honda says that swapping batteries gives you a fully charged one instantly. You won’t have to wait for your vehicle to charge at a station.

India’s 1st CNG Powered Scooter And Solar Powered Car Shown At Auto Expo 2025

    Jupiter 125 CNG

At the Auto Expo 2025, TVS showed off India’s 1st CNG-based scooter, TVS Jupiter CNG.  With a CNG cylinder fitted under the seat of the scooter, it delivers a combined range of 228 km thanks to a 5-litre petrol tank. There was also the Bajaj Freedom 125, the world’s 1st CNG bike.

    Bajaj Freedom CNG

It has a top speed of 90 kmph and the CNG and petrol tank combined provide an unparalleled range of 330 km.  Bajaj claims the operating costs are 50 per cent lower than other conventional ICE bikes.

Another major milestone was the launch of India’s 1st solar-powered car. With a starting price of just 3.25 lakhs, the EVA by Vayve Mobility has a range of 250 kilometres. Furthermore, it can reach a speed of 70 kmph and has solar panels at the top that take advantage of our hot climatic conditions. It has a running cost of 50 paise per km.

Old Wine In A Green Bottle

Maruti Suzuki, a 43-year-old brand, just launched its first EV. Its chairman, R.C. Bhargava, once said, “Electric cars will not become a major product.” The company now aims to become the largest producer of electric cars in India in a 360-degree move which is surprising.

It’s an old wine in a green bottle as it’s not a completely new product. The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is an electric version of the company’s Maruti Suzuki Vitara. It has a massive 10.25-inch infotainment system. It also has a 10-way powered driver’s seat, multi-colour ambient lighting, and an Infinity sound system. With up to 61kWH battery, the company states it could have a range of more than 500 km.

    New Kid On The Block

    Vinfast VF3

At the Auto Expo Motor Show 2025, there were new brands like Vinfast that showcased their entire lineup of electric cars and scooters for India. The Vietnamese company is bringing 7 electric cars and 6 scooters to the country. Furthermore, it has also set up a manufacturing unit and is ready to compete with bigwigs like Tata and Mahindra.

Vinfast wants to make its presence felt in the market. It has a range of cars, from the compact, cute VF3 that could sway diehard Mini Cooper fans, to the luxurious VF9 that can seat seven people.

    Some Impressive Drifting Skills

    BMW Drift Auto Expo 2025

Forget Fast And Furious Tokyo Drift, we got Bharat Mandapam Drift before GTA 6. Jokes apart, I witnessed some amazing drifting skills by the folks over at the BMW Motorrad Community. There were two cars: a BMW M3 Competition and a BMW M5 Competition. After a lot of smoke and burning rubber, people were in awe of their skills.

Mercedes G Wagon Drift Auto Expo 2025

Mercedes also showcased its electric G Wagon at the Auto Expo. I saw two blue electric G Wagons performing a 360-degree drift. Fans could also sign up to take a ride in the passenger seat and experience the thrill of having a drift in a G Wagon.

Auto Expo 2025: Summing It Up

After walking 20,000 steps (a new personal record) and covering all the stalls at the Auto Expo 2025, I went home with a lot of excitement, memories and photos. Auto Expo showcased a glimpse of the future and is the perfect way to kick off the new year.

With several new launches and innovative technologies, consumers got a glimpse of what’s coming next. From flying cars to CNG-powered vehicles, India is writing a new chapter and is at the forefront of many exciting technologies.
