Cities Having Access to 5G Network
It feels weird to say, but 5G is finally here in India. Airtel is the first operator to offer 5G network support. And, as of now, just eight cities have access to the 5G network:
- Delhi
- Mumbai
- Chennai
- Bangalore
- Hyderabad
- Varanasi
- Ahmedabad
- Siliguri
If you are living in any of these cities and have a 5G smartphone and Airtel SIM card, you can enjoy a 5G update right now. But this is just the case with Android mobile phones.
Apple iPhone 5G Update
A recent report claimed that Apple would bring the 5G update to the iOS software by the end of December.
Clearing every air of confusion around the 5G update on Apple iPhone, Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer Randeep Sekhon said- “Apple is currently testing 5G in India; we have set up special networks for them to test,” he added. He further clarified that Airtel won’t b sending any Over-the-air updates to make the 5G network work on smartphones. Instead, it lies in the hands of mobile manufacturers to push software updates that would support 5G services on the device.

How will Apple iPhone support the 5G update?
Just like Apple did with the iPhone 4S and 4G, the tech giant is going to add a network mode via a software update that will allow the latest iPhone series to support the 5G network. However, the company is yet to release an official update on the same.
Not All iPhones Support 5G
Since we are talking about the 5G update on Apple iPhone, you must know that not all iPhones support the 5G network. In fact, Apple is a late adopter of 5G bands. The company introduced 5G with the Apple A14 Bionic chipset on the iPhone 12 series. Hence, only iPhones launched after that will support 5G. That includes iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, and iPhone 14 series.
5G Services Availability and Its Cost in India
As mentioned above, only Airtel is offering 5G services in eight different cities in India. Jio will begin rolling out the services around Diwali, and Vi has not given any statement on the same yet. Talking about the plans, none of the operators has disclosed anything about it, but one thing is confirmed, the plans won’t cost much more compared to the 4G plans. Also, iPhone users won’t need any additional 5G plans to experience the 5G network on their devices.
Final Thoughts
Testing and validating the devices for the 5G update has been started. And if we go by the reports, iPhone users will be able to experience 5G services by the end of December. Also, since 5G services have not started fully in all parts of the country, it is safe to say that the tech giant is not late for the trend and will soon be ready with some solution.
