Every month, research from Sensor Tower posts the most downloaded apps in the world. Although the list doesn’t change often unless there’s a mind-blowing app like TikTok that has witnessed exponential growth in the last year but the standings change based on the number of downloads.
According to Sensor Tower, TikTik rose to the first position in May 2020 recording more than 111.9 million installs which is twice what was recorded last year in May. Here, out of the total downloads, 20% arrived from India while 9.3% of downloads were made by the people in the United States. Next up, Zoom witnessed a significant growth recording over 96.4 million installs which are 43 times what was recorded in May 2019. Both these apps are joined by Facebook-owned WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger at third, fourth, and fifth positions on a global scale respectively while Instagram took to the sixth position on the top 10 most downloaded non-game apps in the world as of May 2020.

Next up, there’s YouTube on the overall downloads at the ninth position and if you take individual marketplace into consideration, YouTube is listed at 3rd position on App Store while there’s no mention on top 10 list on Google Play Store probably due to it being a pre-installed app on Android smartphones. Finally, the list is concluded with Snapchat as the tenth most downloaded app in the world cumulatively on both the marketplaces while it is a position above at 9th on Google Play Store. This is what the record between May 1st and May 31st has showcased so far.
