  • Xiaomi’s first foldable is finally here, Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold. We have heard a lot of rumors on the same for quite some time now. However, it looks like the foldable is finally official with its launch. It’s the company’s first phone to use a foldable panel. The phone is touting to provide an immersive experience for both gaming and watching movies.

    However, there is so much more to the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold than just its foldable nature. The device comes with innovative camera hardware with what Xiaomi calls a ‘Liquid Lens.’ Additionally, it also offers a flagship chipset and an interesting speaker setup.

    Mi MIXFold Price

    Its pricing starts at CNY 9,999 (approximately Rs 1,11,742) in China for the 12GB+256GB configuration. Whereas, the 12GB+512GB version costs CNY 10,999 (approximately Rs 1,22,917). On the other hand, the 16GB+512GB variant is available for CNY 12,999 (approximately Rs 1,45,265).

    Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold pre-orders in China will start today. Moreover, the foldable will go on sale from April 16. The brand has not announced the pricing and availability details for markets outside China.

    Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold Display

    Mi Mix Fold comes with two displays — one on the outside and one on the inside. The primary display inside sees Xiaomi using a large 8.01-inch foldable AMOLED panel. In turn, it can process up to WQHD+ resolutions. Moreover, the panel also supports Dolby Vision for improved visual quality and clear images. The company claims the display tests for up to a million folds.

    However, on the outside, Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold has a 6.52-inch AMOLED display that works at a resolution of 2520×840 pixels. The outer display has a rather wide aspect ratio of 27:9. Fortunately, this display supports up to a 90Hz refresh rate. You also get a 180Hz touch-sampling rate, 650 nits brightness, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision.

    According to Xiaomi, it uses a U-shape hinge that is 27% lighter than the hinges in other foldables. The phone was put through 200,000 bends during its reliability test. In turn, then the number was pushed further to 1 million folds.

    Camera

    Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold comes with an innovative camera feature. It is also the world’s first smartphone with Liquid Lens technology. This concept uses the principle of human eye bionics, forming a lens-like structure with a transparent fluid wrapped in film, very different from traditional optical lenses. Using this technology, the phone also brings support for 3X optical zoom, up to 30X telephoto, and a minimum focus distance of 3cm all through one lens. As per Xiaomi, Liquid Lens also offers high light transmittance, ultra-low dispersion, and excellent resistance to extreme environments.

    Additionally, Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold also uses a 108MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 123-degree field of view. The 108MP pixel main camera is equipped with a 7P lens, which can directly output 108MP pixel high-definition photos. The 123-degree ultra-wide-angle camera supports smart switching. 

    Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold Flagship-grade Powerhouse

    Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. The smartphone runs on Android 11 OS. As mentioned earlier, there are three configurations on offer – 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, and 16GB+512GB. The RAM is an LPDDR5 unit and the storage uses UFS 3.1 technology.

    Moreover, the phone packs a 5020mAh battery split between two 2,460mAh cells. There is 67W charging onboard that can charge the device from zero to 100% in just 37 minutes.
