The Enforcement Directorate dismissed on Saturday as “baseless” allegations. It has said that Xiaomi India officials’ statements were on records “under coercion,” saying the charges were an afterthought. The federal agency was responding to reports that Xiaomi’s top executives were threatful with “physical violence and coercion” during questioning by ED investigators in Bengaluru, according to a recent filing before the Karnataka High Court.

According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), it is “a professional agency with strong work ethics. As well as there was no coercion or threat to the officers of the company at any time.”
The allegations that the statement of Xiaomi India officials were under coercion by ED are false and without foundation. “On various occasions, the officials of Xiaomi India deposed their statements before ED under FEMA in the most conducive environment,” the agency said.
It said that the statements were deposed based on documents and information provided by the company during the course of the investigation. The agency stated that “their statements corroborate with the written responses submitted to ED and the material on record.”

The development follows the ED’s order on April 29, 2022, to seize Xiaomi India’s funds worth over Rs. 5,551 crore for alleged violations of Indian foreign exchange law (Foreign Exchange Management Act). This ED order came earlier this week by the Karnataka High Court.
Xiaomi Has Denied Any Wrongdoing
