In the past few years, Samsung created a mark for itself with its new patents in terms of new innovations in foldables. Moreover, we have also encountered several new implementations for the front cameras including pop-up modules, and rotating modules. However, we have not seen both of them together in one. Meaning, Samsung has filed a patent for a foldable phone with a rotating camera.

A new patent filed by the company shows us a foldable phone with a rotating camera. This patent has surfaced on WIPO. The patent images show us a folding phone with a rotating camera on board. Moreover, the camera will rest inside a small rotating cylinder on the side. The form factor of this phone is identical to the company’s Galaxy Fold series.
To recall, the company launched Galaxy A80 with a rotating camera module back in 2019. Now, this patent looks like a foldable phone with the same idea is under the ideas bank for the company. Let us take a look at the details:

Samsung’s Rotating Camera Module Foldable Phone Patent
According to the patent, the phone will comprise of two housings, and a hinge structure. The rotatable camera module will be attached to the first housing structure and will reside on one of the edges of the foldable. The patent suggests that the rotating camera module could reside either on the right side of the top edge or in the mid of the right edge. It also reveals that the foldable will equip with a motion sensor module that will determine the posture of the device.

Furthermore, it will also have a folding angle sensor module that will determine the folding angle of both the housing structures. Both these sensors will help to identify the posture of the device as soon as the camera app opens, and as a result, the rotating module will adjust its direction. The patent reveals that the processor will connect to the first display as the motion sensor module. Whereas, the folding angle sensor modules will be attached to it.
There’s no telling if this phone will ever see the light of day. At the end of the day, patents are only patents. It’ll still be interesting to see this phone in the future, nevertheless.
