Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G SoC Announced With Features Borrowed From Flagship Snapdragon 888

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G Mobile Platform comes as the latest addition to its existing 7-series portfolio. The new system-on-chip (SoC) is based on 5nm process technology. However, it was previously available on the Snapdragon 888. The 780G is also the first in the Snapdragon 7-series to come with a triple image signal processor (ISP). It includes support for 4K HDR with computational HDR and HDR10 video capture. Furthermore, its journey in 2018 the Snapdragon 7-series SoCs claims to be available on over 350 devices to date.

    However, there are no details about which brands will power on Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G. The devices will be available in the second quarter of 2021.

    Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G Features

    It’s based on the 5nm architecture and comes with the 2nd generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub. It integrates a dedicated low-power AI processor for audio processing. In addition, it also has a Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming that claims to deliver desktop-level capabilities including GPU drivers, ultra-smooth gaming, and True 10-bit HDR gaming. It features a Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System that offers peak download speeds of 3.3Gbps on sub-6GHz frequencies. Moreover, it also offers Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth audio features, and Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology. It features Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Connectivity System. It allows the chipset to support multi-gigabit class Wi-Fi 6 speeds and VR-class low latency.

    Furthermore, there is Wi-Fi 6E support that is capable of extending the advanced feature to a powerful 6GHz spectrum. The chipset can record HDR10+ videos and 4K HDR with computational HDR capture offers dramatic improvements to color and contrast. Lastly, Qualcomm says commercial devices based on the latest Snapdragon 780G are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2021.
