Qualcomm confirmed its Snapdragon Night event in China after it took to Weibo to announce the event. The company might launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in the upcoming event. However, a recent rumour also hints that they might delay the launch until the second half of 2022. But it looks like it might not be the case anymore. From what we know so far, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will get a mid-year refreshed SoC along with a mid-range processor. Here’s what we know so far:

Qualcomm Confirms Snapdragon Night Event For May 20
Qualcomm recently took to Weibo to announce its upcoming Snapdragon Night event in China. As you can see from the poster above, the event will take place on May 20, 2022, at 8 PM local time (5:30 PM IST). Even now, the company has not mentioned the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ or the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. But the company did write that it will unveil a new Snapdragon mobile platform. To recall, the company announced the new naming scheme for the Snapdragon range of processors at the Snapdragon Tech Summit in December 2021. Since then, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be the company’s first 7-series processor with the new nomenclature. Moreover, we can also expect the launch of the successor of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1: What We Know So Far
Previous leaks have suggested that the SoC will carry the model number SM8475. It also suggested that it will make its debut in the month of May. Moreover, other rumours also hinted that it will be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process. Instead of the Samsung foundry which is being used by Qualcomm for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Reports also suggest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will have a 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration which includes a Cortex X2 prime core with 2.99GHz frequency. It may come with three Cortex A710 cores and four Cortex A510 cores. Reports also hint that the Plus SoC will come with an upgraded GPU. However, these upgrades will be marginal.

On the other hand, the upcoming 7 series processor will bring with it an octa-core CPU including four performance and four efficiency cores. The upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC is said to make use of ARM Cortex A710 and Cortex A510 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and 1.8GHz respectively. As per the leaks, the SoC will come with an integrated Adreno 662 GPU.
