Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 as its latest sub-flagship premium smartphone CPU. The latter comes after Qualcomm altered its chip naming strategy in 2021 and debuted the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip in May last year for premium but non-flagship phones. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, now in its latest revision, promises a slew of enhancements over its predecessor. It pushes the seven series of non-flagship processors closer to the Qualcomm 8 series of flagship chips.

Features of Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2
The upcoming chipset has the same core configuration as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. It has one Cortex-X2 performance core rated at 2.91GHz, three Cortex-A710 bulk cores set at 2.49GHz, and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The chips differ from those of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. However, the overall configuration is more similar to those of the latter.
As a result, Qualcomm boasts a slew of improvements in nearly every statistic. They include a 50 per cent increase in overall performance over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Moreover, a 15 per cent increase in single-core performance on the Geekbench benchmark over a competitor chipset that Qualcomm did not disclose.
In terms of graphics performance, Qualcomm claims that the 7+ Gen 2 SoC has a 2x more powerful GPU, providing a considerable improvement in the graphics capabilities of sub-flagship-grade Android handsets. This corresponds to 25 per cent higher benchmark results for graphics tests and a 66 per cent increase in Geekbench’s 1080p stress testing. GPU capabilities are further enhanced by auto variable-rate shading, volumetric rendering, AI super rendering, and Adreno Frame Motion Engine.
