  • OnePlus will officially launch its upcoming foldable OnePlus Open on October 19. The phone has leaked several times with complete renders and pricing details. This is the company’s first folding phone, and it has partnered with Oppo to create the device. A new video has revealed the OnePlus Open design and hinge details ahead of launch.

    A new video courtesy of YouTuber MrMobile in collaboration with OnePlus gives us a glimpse of the company’s factory in Shenzen, China. In the factory tour, the YouTuber showcases various durability and stress tests that the OnePlus Open must undergo before it goes on sale. Furthermore, he revealed the OnePlus Open design will have a less prominent crease than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Google Pixel Fold.

    The hinge mechanism of the phone uses only 69 parts, down from the 100 used on the Oppo Find N2. It also uses lighter alloys to reduce the weight by 13 grams. The phone’s display utilizes a carbon fibre layer, which has contributed to making it lighter.

    OnePlus Open To Have IP Rating?

    Interestingly, the phone also undergoes a 10-minute intense test in a “rain environment” where water is poured on the phone from all sides. While OnePlus has not confirmed the presence of an official IP rating, it will definitely have some protection against water splashes. The Oppo Find N2 has no official IP rating but foldables from Samsung sport IPX8 rating.

    There are several bends and drops tests, including one that simulates the phone kept in the back of a jeans pocket. The device will launch in India at the company’s official event in Mumbai on October 19. Rumours suggest the phone could have a price tag of Rs.1,39,000, making it the most expensive OnePlus phone. However, this price is still cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 in India.
