  • MediaTek has announced its latest mid-range chipset called the Dimensity 8300. It offers major performance improvements, and AI features at a lower price tag. The 4nm processor will arrive as the successor to the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 from last year and compete against the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

    The MediaTek Dimensity 8300 is an octa-core chipset based on the ARMv9 architecture. It consists of 4 ARM Cortex A715 cores at 3.35 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.2GHz.

    Furthermore, the company claims it offers 20 per cent faster CPU performance and 30 per cent better power efficiency.

    It also brings serious improvements with the ARM Mali-G615 GPU with 60 per cent performance gains and 55 per cent power efficiency than its predecessor.

    Moreover, the company claims 17 per cent faster app cold launch and 47 faster app launches from standby.

    The processor also supports quad-channel LPDDR5X RAM running at 8,533Mbps speeds and UFS 4.0 storage with MCQ (Multi-Circular Queue).

    It Brings Generative AI For the First Time To A Mid-Range Chip

    The MediaTek APU 780 brings generative AI features for the first time to a mid-range processor. It supports Stable Diffusion and LLM with up to 10 billion parameters.

    Furthermore, the chipset offers 3.3 times faster AI performance than its predecessor. The new Imagiq 980 ISP can support a 320-megapixel camera sensor with the ability to simultaneously record dual 4K HDR videos at 60 FPS.

    The new chip has MediaTek MiraVision 880 to optimize the real-time picture quality on the display. It supports WQHD+ displays at 120Hz and Full-HD+ panels at 180Hz.

    There is support for HDR10+, Smart BluLight Defender and 4K AV1 media decoding. The chipset has a fully integrated 5G modem with 3CC carrier aggregation for connectivity.

    It is capable of providing up to 5.17Gbps downlink speeds on sub-6GHz networks. You also get support for Wi-Fi 6E with double the bandwidth and Bluetooth 5.4.

    MediaTek says smartphones with the chipset will arrive by the end of this year. The upcoming Xiaomi Redmi K70E will launch with the new chipset later this month.
