Apple is slashing its planned production of the iPhone 12 mini for the first half of this year. It is part of a broader adjustment to output plans it formulated late last year. Moreover, it is also because it did not perform as well as Apple hoped in terms of sales. It is reportedly reducing orders for all iPhone models by around 20%. However, the other variants in the series are performing well. Considering a report states that the iPhone12 series has outperformed iPhone 11 sales last year.

The reduction in orders is mostly coming from the iPhone 12 mini, its cheapest 5G-enabled phone. According to a report by Nikkei Apple is now targeting production of around 75 million iPhone units. It is lower than the previous 80 to 90 million units. However, it is “slightly higher than iPhone shipments in the same period last year,” according to the report.

Moreover, the report adds that some suppliers are asked to temporarily stop building components for iPhone 12 mini. In addition, the company told suppliers that it still intends to build 230 million iPhones for 2021. This is not the first time we are hearing about the low sales of the former mentioned mini phone. According to previous reports, Apple may discontinue iPhone 12 mini production by the second quarter of 2021.
