Remember when the Apple-Epic Games feud was making the headlines? Something similar is happening as we now get to witness the Google-Tinder war. To recall the feud, on May 10, 2022, Tinder took its problem with Google to a US federal court. Match Group Inc owned Tinder mainly reports that Google is abusing their monopoly power via the Google Play Store.

Google Play Store is the go-to store for Android users to download millions of apps and games. Google has reportedly refused to share 30 per cent of Tinder’s in-app sales with Match. That led to Tinder taking the matter to court. However, Tinder has now withdrawn the temporary restraining order request on Google.

This is because Google made a couple of concessions which would allow apps owned by Match to use alternate payment methods without getting removed from the Play Store. For now, the date of the trial has been set for April 2023.

Google has stated that till the dispute is settled, Match will have to continue integrating Google Play Store’s billing system. Prior to the entire agreement, Google had stated that they would be removing Match’s apps from the Play Store by June 1 if they did not use Google’s payment system or shared revenue.

The Google-Tinder war is the result of Google Play Store and App Store charging hefty fees for using their platforms. This often leaves app developers no choice but to take a stand. In the Apple-Epic Games feud, Fortnite ended up getting removed from the App Store. So, iOS players can’t play Fortnite on their devices anymore.

This result took the internet by storm as Fortnite players on iOS would now have to shift to other platforms to play the game. Epic Games also included a very popular cutscene mocking apple for their brutal move. Hopefully, the dispute between Google and Tinder will not take a similar ugly turn.
