While other smartphones companies are sticking to two updates and three years of security patches, Google is trying to bring the new trend. According to the sources, Google is presumed to bring four OS updates to the Pixel 6 series. Also, unlike before, Google will now provide five years of security patches instead of three.
The news of the arrival of the Google Pixel 6 series is already capturing the market. This year, Google can leverage its Tensor custom SoC to provide software updates for a longer time.

The tipster Evan Blass on Twitter also hinted about the longer software support. The text from the leaked material follows as “Pixel comes with at least five years of updates, so it gets more secure over time”. Also, Google is using its own Tensor processor on the Pixel 6 series instead of a third-party processor. This could be the reason why it would now be able to offer a longer software update cycle.

If Google expands the software update cycle for its Pixel series to five years, ultimately, it would be taken on Samsung. Samsung earlier this year promised its users to offer security updates on selected Galaxy devices for at least four years. Xiaomi also in September announced that its flagship Xiaomi 11T series will get four years of security updates.
But specific details on how many software updates we would see on the Pixel 6 series are still unknown. It is likely to be declared at the launch that is scheduled for October 19.
