Google’s Input/Output (I/O) i.e, Google I/O 2022 event on May 11 saw several notable launches and announcements this year. Google’s developer conference showcased a lot of new technology, but the Pixel devices stole the show.

Google made a significant step toward following Apple’s lead with its portfolio of trendsetting products.

Pixel watch

Google Pixel Watch

Google’s wristwatch joins the six-year-old Pixel brand. Google will make its first big foray into wearable technology with the new watch. Previously, Google’s smartwatch presence has been confined to adapting its Android mobile operating system to third-party watches.

The Google Pixel Watch will run Wear OS and have FitBit-like capabilities like heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking.

Pixel 6A

Google will add a new inexpensive Pixel phone, the 6a, to its lineup of Pixel phones before unveiling its wristwatch. The Pixel 6a will have Google’s top-of-the-line chipset yet cost $449, saving 25 per cent over the somewhat more advanced Pixel 6.

The wireless earphones with noise-cancelling will be available on July 28. The Pixel Buds Pro are $199.

The tech titan kept these two items under wraps during I/O. But Google did show out the Pixel 7. Unfortunately, the smartphone lens on this year’s model looked utterly different. The Google tablet, on the other hand, is due in 2023.

Google of Alphabet Inc. previewed augmented-reality glasses that show real-time chat translations. “Subtitles for the globe,” said Google product director Eddie Chung.

“We’re focusing on bringing years of Google Translate research to eyewear,” he stated.

Video shows the company’s prototype glasses showing translations in English, Mandarin, Spanish, and American Sign Language.

With artificial intelligence, Google intends to connect the actual world with its digital universe of search, maps and other services. For example, maps will introduce an immersive view for select major cities later this year.

Later this year, the company also said that a revamped Google Wallet app would enable digitally storing driver’s licenses in Arizona, a capability Apple introduced on iPhones in March.
