Some manufacturers choose to disable the feature. Meanwhile, users still can open the assistant with the home screen gesture, or voice activation. This works on any device that has Google Assistant and you can also do this by squeezing the sides of phones like the Google Pixel 4.

Once Google pushes this new function of activating Google Assistant with the app update, you can turn this feature ON by going to the Assistant settings on your phone.
With the latest Android 12 operating system, the new option will appear within the Apps section in your phone’s Settings menu. For devices running Android 11 or lower, this new functionality will be available under the Apps & Notification section of the Settings app.
It is nice to see Google finally bringing this feature directly into the Google app. What do you think?
