Apple is planning to launch the iPad models with OLED displays in 2024. The Cupertino tech giant has reportedly signed a Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology (SMT), in addition to Samsung and LG. This is for building panels for the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. The future iPads will get hybrid OLED displays.
Apple may switch to a significant upgrade for the iPad. This iPhone maker comes with OLED displays on its Apple Watch and in its recent smartphone models.
But now these screens will come with upgrades. The screens on new MacBook and iPad devices will come up with improvements from the regular OLED displays.

Expected Changes After SMT
The Apple Insider states that both the iPad and iPad Pro’s display is a major component of user experience. So, supplier changes in the design are hinting at the changes.
According to the report by DigiTimes, the tech giant signed up with Taiwan SMT. This is for acquiring hybrid OLED displays for future iPads. The Taiwan SMT will help in carrying out the SMT process for mini-LED backlighting of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. This new hybrid OLED technology will bring together both rigid and flexible OLED panel materials.

The Taiwan SMT will be financially helped by Apple. The company is contributing to the expansion of the production lines. It is using dedicated hardware for mini-LED deposition.
As per the reports, this is Taiwan SMT’s first time in the Apple supplier ecosystem. Well, vast opinions have come around for the OLED iPad.The previous reports state that Apple is producing final prototypes of the iPad along with OLED displays. This was done together with the domestic display partners – Samsung and LG.
Future iPads With OLED Displays
The upcoming iPad models may come with a lightweight design. Also with improved image quality. The company is expected to use the dry etching process.
This will help in chemically eliminating unneeded parts. While it will have a thin-film transistor (TFT) circuit pattern for the very first time. This display will be made thinner and lighter. However, the prices of iPad models may be affected.
Apple is expected to launch MacBook and iPad Pro models with OLED displays in 2024. They can even launch the new 13.3-inch MacBook with the OLED display, with the rumoured 11- and 12.9-inch OLED iPad Pro models.

The three devices may come up with the tandem stack technology for improved brightness and lifespan. This will help in less power consumption. This new screen may provide a variable refresh rate between 1–120Hz. That will use the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology.
