Apple is bringing major improvements to its video calling service with new features and effects. The Cupertino giant has been focusing on its iMessage and FaceTime as it tries to compete against other messaging apps. Here are all the new features the company is introducing to Apple’s FaceTime service.
FaceTime Gets New Reaction Effects Features
Apple has added new reactions to FaceTime with iOS 17 update. These include effects like hearts, balloons, confetti, fireworks, etc.
You can perform physical gestures during a video call to trigger these effects. For example, a simple thumbs-up will add a Like effect, whereas a thumbs-down will show a dislike. Furthermore, showing two thumbs will add some fireworks, while two thumbs down will trigger a rain shower.

There is also an option of long-pressing your picture in FaceTime to summon the reaction menu and choose any of the reactions. These effects will also appear in third-party apps like Zoom and Webex.

- Love- Heart emoji
- Like-Thumbs Up
- Fireworks- Two thumbs up
- Dislike- Single thumbs down
- Cloud- Two thumbs down
- Balloons- Peace sign with a single hand
- Confetti- Peace sign with both hands
- Laser- Rock On sign with both hands
FaceTime Gets New Voicemail Video Message Feature
Another new FaceTime feature is the ability to send audio or video messages if someone misses your call. This way, you can send a detailed voicemail if you wish to send an urgent message to your friend.

You can even add the special effects mentioned above to personalize your message. Furthermore, you can take advantage of Portrait mode and Studio Light to ensure that you look presentable. These messages can also be played on the Apple Watch.
FaceTime Now Available on Apple TV
Apple is also bringing FaceTime to the Apple TV 4K so you can enjoy video calls with your friends in the living room. You can now make calls directly from the device or start a call on an iPhone or iPad to continue on the device. It uses the continuity feature to transfer your call seamlessly by connecting to your iPhone or iPad wirelessly.

FaceTime calls on the Apple TV 4K use the microphones and camera on the device for video calls. Furthermore, Apple claims the feature will be available on Cisco and Zoom tvOS apps later this year.
Developers can use the Continuity Camera API to take advantage of the feature. The tvOS update is now available to all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD devices. These new FaceTime features will certainly enhance the video calling experience for Apple users, giving it an edge over competitors.
