- Adaptive Refresh Rate: brings new features to enhance your app’s support for Adaptive Refresh Rate (ARR). It introduces two new methods:
hasArrSupport()
andgetSuggestedFrameRate(int)
- System Triggered Profiling: It enables apps to leverage it for monitoring diagnostic data. Developers can use it to subscribe to updates on key metrics such as start events, start types, startup times, and throttling behaviors.
- New Haptics: The new haptic APIs are introduced in the Developer Preview of this Android version, allowing apps to customize haptic effects by defining precise amplitude and frequency curves.
- Job Scheduler: It provides several explanations for why a job remains in a pending state, considering both explicit limitations defined by the developer.
- Accessibility: Android 16 deprecates accessibility announcements, developers should use setAccessibilityPaneTitle() and setAccessibilityLiveRegion() for better accessibility support.
- Cloud Search in Photo Picker: Introducing new APIs that allow users to search directly within the cloud media provider through the Android photo picker. The search feature for the photo picker will be available soon.
- More Security: Android 16 Developer Preview introduces advanced security enhancements for WiFi-based location services on devices supporting WiFi 6’s 802.11az. This enables apps to leverage the protocol’s improved accuracy, scalability, and dynamic scheduling capabilities.
