The image was shared by user @choco_bit in which we get to see a drawing that allegedly depicts the iPhone 12. The image focuses at the back of the phone where the cameras are housed and shows an additional lens that seems to suggest that is where the LiDAR scanner will be housed. The image, as reports suggest, was allegedly discovered after data mining the leaked copy of iOS 14. Not only the camera module, but several other upcoming products and features were revealed by this copy.
The drawing clearly shows a triple-rear camera setup with the flash seated at the centre of the module just like the iPhone 11 Pro series along with the addition of a LiDAR sensor. The combination is tipped to comprise of a wide-angle, an ultra-wide-angle, a telephoto and a LiDAR scanner on the back. This can supposedly be limited to the Pro models with the regular models to feature just a dual-camera module, just like the iPhone 11.
For those unaware of the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor, it’s basically a ToF sensor and should help improve the Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities of its new device. LiDAR sensors measure distances surrounding objects and get implemented to navigate roads and obstacles in driverless cars.
