Why Do We Need Colour Voter ID?

The old monochrome style of voter ID cards had fallacies that the ECI decided to rectify. The images on those cards were sometimes blurry or unrecognisable, which caused problems in identifying the individual. So, the newer version of cards is now made in PVC for more clarity and details. New voters who have recently registered will automatically get their card in coloured form. However, the existing individuals on the voter’s list need the EPIC number to download their PVC Card.

What is a PVC Voter ID (or Colour Voter ID)?

A PVC Voter ID, also known as a Coloured Voter ID, is an upgraded version of the traditional black and white voter ID card. It’s made of durable polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic, making it more resistant to damage and wear. But the biggest upgrade is the addition of colour! The card features a colourful design with a clear, high-resolution photograph of the voter.

Benefits of a PVC Voter ID:

  • Durability: Less prone to damage compared to paper voter IDs.
  • Clarity: Improved photo and text readability.
  • Security: This may include additional security features.
