Design
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus launch event unveiled that the phones would feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED displays, respectively. The display is surrounded by slim bezels, and instead of the pill-shaped “Dynamic Island” cutout, the notch has made a return.
Moreover, the screen still supports Dolby Vision and True Tone but with a peak brightness of 2000 nits and an HDR brightness of 1600 nits, which is almost double the 1200 nits of brightness found in its predecessor.
In addition, the entire iPhone 15 lineup will be equipped with a USB-C Port. This comes with the EU mandate that all future smartphones must shift to USB-C by 2024.
Both devices still ship with a 60Hz display, and there is no ProMotion screen despite featuring a Face ID sensor on the front. The screen does come equipped with a Ceramic Shield, which Apple touts as tougher than any smartphone glass. Additionally, a new glass back design with colour-infused materials graces the rear of the device. The aluminium frame has also undergone a sustainable transformation, now using 75 per cent recycled aluminium.

The iPhone 15 features the A16 Bionic chipset, built on a 4nm process, boasting 6 CPU cores and a 5 Core GPU. It comes with two high-performance and four high-efficiency cores, which are more power-efficient compared to the iPhone 14. This latest processor also showcases a remarkable 40 per cent improvement in GPU performance when compared to the iPhone 12.
In addition to its processing power, a new second-generation Ultra Wide Band chip extends its connectivity range by threefold when connecting to other devices. This enhancement offers more accurate location sharing, even in crowded environments. Furthermore, the iPhone 15 introduces the Voice Isolation feature, which adeptly removes background noise from your surroundings.
The iPhone 15 series marks a significant step forward by introducing roadside assistance through satellite connectivity. This means you can seamlessly share your precise location with a roadside assistance provider, ensuring help arrives even in the most remote areas.
In terms of storage options, both phones come in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants, providing ample space for your digital life. They run on the stable version of iOS 17, equipped with support for e-SIM, 5G, Satellite, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
A noteworthy shift with the iPhone 15 series is the transition to USB-C, which allows you to charge all your Apple devices using a single cable.
Moreover, after 11 years, the lightning port has been replaced, and the company has introduced a range of USB-C accessories. Also, it includes MagSafe and wired earbuds to complement this change.
Cameras
Both iPhones now come equipped with a new 48-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, marking a significant leap from the 12-megapixel sensor featured in the iPhone 14 lineup. These cameras boast an f/1.6 aperture and Sensor-Shift Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Thanks to this substantial upgrade, Apple claims that they can capture images in four times higher resolution compared to their predecessors. Additionally, the new Photonic Engine enhances portrait capabilities.
The 12-megapixel ultrawide lens introduces the capability to capture 2x optical shots, enhancing the versatility of your photography. Another noteworthy addition is the Smart HDR feature, which intelligently discerns between the subject and the background, ensuring that colours appear true-to-life in your photos.
Using computational photography powered by the new A16 Bionic chip, the phone defaults to generating 24-megapixel shots.

Operating system
The iPhone 15 has launched the latest iOS out of the box. This would mean that we have the iOS 17 in the iPhone 15 lineup. However, the most substantial updates are centred around the Phone, Messages, and FaceTime apps. Notably, Apple is addressing the long-standing autocorrect issues, and Siri can now be triggered by simply saying “Siri” instead of the traditional “Hey Siri.”
In the Phone app, the improvements are particularly noteworthy. The new Contact Poster feature allows you to set a profile picture for yourself, which will be prominently displayed in full-screen when you call other iPhone users. Additionally, the innovative NameDrop feature simplifies contact sharing – bringing two iPhones close together to exchange contact information seamlessly. Meanwhile, within the Messages app, you’ll discover animated stickers that can be created from your Live Photos, adding a touch of creativity to your messages.
