Samsung not only announced a trio of the latest Galaxy S20 smartphones, but it also announced a new foldable phone: The Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung showed an ad for the new phone during the Oscars on Sunday night, but outside of that, we only had leaks and rumours about the phone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: Price and Availability
It’s far less costly than the Galaxy Fold. The Galaxy Z Flip will launch on 14/02/2020 in retail stores and online. Since the launch just a couple of days away, there’s no preorder. It’ll cost $1,380 (>Rs. 1,00,000).
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Design
The Z Flip opens vertically, like a flip phone. A little display on the front reveals time and notifications. When open, there’s a 6.7-inch display with a hole-punch cutout centred along the top of the screen. When it’s closed it transforms into a rectangle that does not resemble a smartphone. The tiny display on the front of the phone (when closed) will show you any notifications or incoming calls. There is a USB-C port for charging, a fingerprint reader on the side of the phone, but no headphone jack. Samsung is using ultra thin glass to guard the phone’s display from scratches, while not prohibiting its ability to bend and fold. It can be opened to different angles, because of Flex mode.

Flex mode uses a hideaway hinge to hold the display in place, halfway open, or at an angle. This should make it easier to try to to things like taking a selfie with the phone on a flat surface, or using the rear cameras to take long-exposure photos without a tripod. Flex mode can also split the top and bottom half of the display into two, smaller 4-inch displays. While the Galaxy S20 lineup all have 5G support, the Z Flip is an LTE-only phone.
