Tecno Phantom X2 Design and Build
In terms of price, the Tecno Phantom X2 counts into the premium range category which can’t be known by others while looking at it. It resembles the aesthetics of Tecno Phantom X2 Pro mainly because of its mammoth camera island placed in the centre. In Stardust Gray colourway, The matte finish coupled with sprinkled texture on its back keeps the fingerprint and smudges at bay and feels silky smooth.
The “PHANTOM” text is placed at the bottom and looks appealing. This back and front panel is tapered from its sides delivering a comfortable grip that meets nearly into the metal frames that Tecno calls a “unibody double-curved design. It feels premium during in-hand operations and reminds me of Vivo X60 Pro. Coming at 203g, it isn’t too heavy either. However, the weight distribution is not on point due to that camera island.

On the right, it holds volume rockers and a power button with a red colour accent to it which are pretty tactile and well-positioned whereas the left side is bare. At its top, it harnesses a secondary microphone noise cancellation.
On its bottom, it bundles a bottom-firing speaker, a USB Type-C Port, a SIM tray slot, and a primary microphone. It lacks the IP68 rating which protects the device from accidental water and dust damage to an extent.
Tecno Phantom X2 Display
Over to its display, The Tecno Phantom X2 packs in an immersive 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED curved display. This display has a peak brightness of up to 710 nits. During outdoor scenarios, the display is bright enough and we didn’t encounter any visibility issues.
As far as Ingress protection is concerned, it’s covered with Gorilla Glass Victus. It comes with 2 colour modes:- Bright colours and Original colours. However, this display reproduces bold and accurate colours.

Phantom X2 supports Widevine L1 certification which lets the other OTT streaming applications like Netflix and Amazon Prime offer HD quality to cherish your binge sessions. Being a flagship, it lacks the HDR certification which takes away the joy since the processor is capable to support it. It holds three modes for refresh rate settings:- Auto switch refresh rate, 60Hz, and 120Hz.
Tecno Phantom X2 Performance
Tecno Phantom X2 sports Mediatek Dimensity 9000 which is based on 4nm technology with the futureproofing of 5G. This chipset can easily go neck-to-neck with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which means it delivers best-in-class performance.
The graphical duties are handled by Mali-G710 MC10. It provides a clock speed of up to 3.05 GHz coupled with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The day-to-day performance felt light and fast on its feet, it holds all the horsepower without compromising the performance.

While playing heavy game titles like Genshin Impact or Call of Duty: Mobile, we didn’t encounter any slowdowns or lags during our usage. The device felt slightly warmer while playing genshin impact for an hour but doesn’t undercut the performance at all.
While performing the Antutu benchmark, the device’s temperature reached almost 39°C which can be accepted. As far as benchmarks are concerned; It hits 870758 in Antutu Benchmark, 1213 in Single-Core Score, and 3690 Multi-Core Score. During the CPU throttling test, it throttled down to 79% to its max performance.
Tecno Phantom X2 Software and UI
On the software side, Tecno Phantom X2 ships with custom-skinned HiOS 12 on top of Android 12. The OS is slightly dated but the brand has partnered with Google for promising software updates and will receive Android 13 via OTA update. To deliver more insights into this OS, it comes with various exclusive features like Voice Changer, Video Beauty, Whatsapp Voice Recorder, Peek Mode to read deleted messages on Whatsapp, sticker maker, etc.

To sum up, real-life user experience is far from ideal. This device wasn’t interrupted by spooky notifications which deserve appreciation. There isn’t much bloatware present in this device but Tecno is sticking with its traditional in-house stock apps like AI Gallery, Ella, Hi Browser, Hi Translate, Palm Store, and Visha Player for basic operations in Phantom X2.
It’s worth noting that when we tried to install Netflix from Playstore, we wouldn’t able to install it from there due to the lack of HDR 10 support.
Tecno Phantom X2 Camera
The Tecno Phantom X2 bundles a triple camera array which includes 64MP Primary Sensor, 13MP Ultra-wide Sensor, and 2MP sensor that is equipped with LED flash. On its front optics, it bundles a 64 MP selfie shooter with OIS.
Pictures that are captured from its 64MP Primary sensor shoot polished and a good amount of details in the scene with a skew of desaturation in the colours to keep them in their natural look. This desaturation can be noticed during twilight conditions. Overall, the dynamic range is in-point and contrast levels are adequate as well. In some instances, the camera performs poorly in night mode and full-resolution mode.
It lacks a dedicated telephoto camera but allows shooting digital zoom pictures via a primary camera. The “2x zoom” looks the same as the “1x photo” with the same colour science. Afterwards, it can zoom up to 10x and the results look aggressively soft with lesser details but can easily be used in various scenarios. The night mode is disappointing; With a shutter count of almost 6-8 seconds, it comes up with a worse photo than the normal mode. Sometimes, it works flawlessly well.

It also allows shooting in 64MP mode with Quad-Bayer pixel binning which holds considerably more details than regular 16MP photos. In Portrait mode, the edge detection and background separation are perfect with the right amount of background blur which works pretty well on living as well as non-living subjects too.
The 13MP Ultra-wide picks up the same camera sensor from its bigger sibling i.e, Tecno Phantom X2 Pro. Pictures that are captured from Phantom X2 reproduce natural colours and are consistent. Photos that are captured from its 13MP Ultra-wide camera reproduce natural colours and the colour science remains constant between both lenses. The edge distortion softens up via software processing which is as expected.
This Ultrawide lens can also be doubled up as a macro camera and it gets the job done with admirable photos. The 32MP selfie shooter just shines with sharp and detailed photos coupled with pleasing skin tones.
As far as video capabilities are concerned, Tecno Phantom X2 can shoot up to 4K@60fps from its primary camera. However, both the ultrawide and selfie cameras are limited to 1080p resolution but the selfie shooter can shoot up to 1080p@60fps whereas the ultrawide lens is limited to 30fps only. However, the absence of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) might be a bummer but Electronic Image Stabilization does the job well to stabilize the video footage except for a tad bit of focus hunting issue during some circumstances.
Tecno Phantom X2 Battery
The Tecno Phantom X2 packs in a mammoth 5,160mAh battery with a 45W Fast charging solution. The all-day battery is no problem at all. It easily serves 6-7 hours of Screen on Time which includes a moderate hour of gaming, and 2 hours of binge-watching and browsing social media apps.
This 45W fast charger can charge the device from 0%-50% in 19 minutes and it took us 67 minutes to charge it from 0% to 100%. However, it lacks the wireless charging support which makes a flagship, a flagship.

Tecno Phantom X2 is the second attempt by the brand (after the Tecno Phantom X) to enter into the competitive flagship market with its latest Mediatek Dimensity 9000, a minimal and unique back design, 120Hz curved OLED display, a reliable set of hardware, a mediocre camera setup and a good battery backup with fast charging.
The HiOS 12 is now improved with less bloatware than usual and the experience is intriguing. Meanwhile, there are some omissions to make it available at an aggressive price point which include average low-light camera performance, lack of wireless charging, and the single bottom-firing speakers are still rigid to accept in a flagship.
