The Realme Narzo 70 Pro is the company’s latest attempt to disrupt the mid-range segment with great cameras and a unique design. It features a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 sensor, which was also found on flagship phones last year.

Are these features enough to compete with the competition, and does the Realme Narzo 70 Pro deserve the crown for the best mid-range camera phone? I have been using the phone for a while now, and here is my review of the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G.

The device has a unique glass back with a soft finish on the top section and a matte finish at the bottom. You also get a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2000 nits of brightness.

But how does the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 perform? Can the 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 live up to the hype? To find out, read my review of the Realme Narzo 70 Pro.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro Design And Build

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro has a unique Glass back design that offers both a smooth and matte finish. Realme calls it the Horizon Glass Design, with an arc below the circular camera module that dissects the bottom part of the phone with a matte finish.

Personally, I am not a huge fan of this design, as I prefer a completely smooth finish for a better grip. The matte finish on the Narzo 70 does not provide a good grip, and I recommend using the included case instead.

I have the Glass Green colour, which looks dull, and I would have preferred a brighter colour instead. I like the smooth and thick vegan leather back of the Realme 12 Pro series, as it offers a premium feel. Despite the glass build, the phone feels comfortable holding in the hand, weighing around 195 grams and just 7.97mm thick.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro Camera Module

Nevertheless, the Narzo 70 Pro follows the same design language as the Realme 12 series. Its centre has a large circular camera module that houses the dual camera setup. The phone also has Narzo branding at the bottom.

At the top, you will find the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is rare in this segment apart from the secondary microphone and speaker grille.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Bottom

At the bottom, you get the primary speaker, USB-C port, and dual-SIM tray. The glossy metallic frame is prone to smudges and fingerprints.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Camera

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro sports a 50-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle lens. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie camera. You can view all the samples in their full quality by clicking on this Google Drive Link

The 50-megapixel primary camera has the Sony IMX 890 sensor, which is found on flagships like the OnePlus 11. During the day, it can take detailed shots with plenty of detail and sharpness.

Furthermore, the dynamic range and exposure are also excellent, rivalling even phones that cost twice as much. I found the Realme Narzo 70 Pro camera quality to be better than the Realme 12 Pro Plus.

On the other hand, the 8-megapixel ultrawide can take decent shots but offers nothing special. The Realme Narzo 70 Pro shines even in challenging low-light shots, with good exposure and dynamic range at night.

It is one of the best camera phones in this segment, and the photos taken in low light have minimal noise and plenty of sharpness. I was truly impressed with the optimisation and tuning, as Realme has managed to tune the IMX 890 for mid-range hardware.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Selfie

On the front, you get a 16-megapixel selfie shooter that can take good shots with accurate skin tones and details. The Realme Narzo 70 Pro can shoot videos at 4K at 30 FPS and 1080p at 30 FPS with OIS enabled. The selfie camera also records 1080p at 30FPS.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro Battery And Charging

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro packs a 5,000mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC charging support. Thanks to the 6nm chipset, you can easily expect up to 6 to 7 hours of battery life on normal usage.

My usage patterns include scrolling through social media, playing casual games like Clash of Clans, watching videos on YouTube, and taking photos. I could easily reach the end of the day with around 30 per cent battery left.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Charger

Using the 67W SUPERVOOC charger, you can charge the phone within an hour, which is great. It is nice that Realme is providing 67W charging in this segment, where manufacturers typically offer 33W or 45W chargers in the box.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro Display And Audio

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen’s peak brightness is 2000 nits, and it has a fast and accurate in-display fingerprint sensor.

The phone has a punch hole cutout with slim bezels at the top and a sizeable chin. I would have preferred it if the Narzo 70 Pro had a smaller chin, as devices like the Poco X6 Neo offer narrow bezels at a lower price.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Brightness

The display is bright and vibrant, and thanks to the 2000 nits of peak brightness, I faced no issues under harsh sunlight. Watching content on the screen is a pure treat due to its saturated colours.

I enjoyed watching Season 2 of Tokyo Vice, as the show has plenty of pitch-dark scenes reflected well on the AMOLED screen. The Widevine L1 certification also allows you to enjoy shows in 1080p on streaming platforms.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro Refresh Rate

Thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate, navigating through the user interface remains smooth. Moreover, you can choose between three modes: Auto Select, which automatically selects the best refresh rate; Standard (60Hz); and High (120Hz).

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Lockscreen

For audio, you get a stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support and Hi-Res audio certification. These speakers are loud enough to fill an entire room and do not distort at the highest volume.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Performance

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro is powered by the MediaTek 7050 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. This 6nm chipset powers its predecessor, the Realme Narzo 60 Pro, as well as the Realme 11 Pro Plus and the Realme 11 Pro.

It seems the company has taken the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach by sticking with the Dimensity 7050 processor. Interestingly, the Dimensity 7050 is a rebrand of the MediaTek Dimensity 1080, which debuted with the Realme 10 Pro+ 2 years ago.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro RAM Expansion

Nevertheless, the phone’s day-to-day performance remains smooth. I did not face any issues, even when opening or closing multiple apps thanks to the UFS 3.1 storage. Thanks to the 8GB of RAM and 8GB of virtual memory, most apps I opened remained in memory.

When it comes to intensive tasks like gaming, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro can handle games like BGMI at Smooth and Extreme (60FPS) and Call of Duty Mobile at High and Very High (60FPS). Unfortunately, neither game offers 90FPS support, which is a bit disappointing.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Benchmarks

Regarding benchmarks, the phone has a Geekbench score of 956 in the single-core test and 23213 in the multi-core test. Furthermore, the phone achieves stability of 98.3 per cent in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test and throttles to 91 per cent in the 15-minute CPU throttling test.

In the AnTuTu V10 benchmark, the phone scored 578081, and in the AnTuTu storage test, it scored 66516. Overall, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro is a decent performer when it comes to day-to-day tasks and casual games.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro Software And UI

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro runs on Realme UI 5.0, which is based on Android 14 out of the box. It is great to see phones shipping with the latest OS, as some manufacturers, like Xiaomi, still offer Android 13 on their new phones.

Furthermore, Realme claims it has reduced bloatware by 65 per cent on the Narzo 70 Pro, which is evident here. There are very few preinstalled apps, like Snapchat and Amazon, that might be useful for some people.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Bloatware

Realme has also removed the infamous Hot Apps and Hot Games folder, which is a welcome move. By offering a cleaner software experience, the Narzo 70 Pro feels closer to any other OnePlus phone.

Apart from the typical Realme UI 5 features like Flash Capsule and File Dock, the Narzo 70 Pro offers some exclusive features. These include the new Air Gesture, which allows you to control the device by simply waving your hand.

While the Air Gesture sounds revolutionary and promising on paper, it was more of a hit-and-miss, as the feature only worked sometimes. You must get the perfect angle and memorise all the gestures to ensure it works each time.

    Realme Narzo 70 Pro Features

However, the feature was fun to use when it occasionally worked for me. I liked the ability to scroll through reels and web pages without touching the phone. It can be useful when your hands are dirty or if the phone is at a distance.

Another feature is the Rainwater Smart Touch, which allows you to use the phone even when your hands are wet. I tried sprinkling some water on my phone, and the result was amazing, as the touch remained functional. This is something that you cannot do with other phones. I tried the same with my Vivo V29 Pro, and the screen became unresponsive.

Furthermore, the company claims an X-touch anti-mistouch algorithm can reduce accidental touches by 30 per cent and increase the response rate by 40 per cent. While this would have been more useful on a curved screen, I did not face any accidental touch issues.

Realme has promised two years of OS updates and three years of security patches, which is a bit disappointing. This means the phone will receive updates until Android 16. Phones like the Nothing Phone (2A) offer long software support and hopefully Realme will improve its update support in the future.

    Verdict

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro offers flagship-grade cameras, a unique design, and a nearly clean software experience. Realme has taken user feedback seriously and reduced bloatware to a bare minimum, although the OS update promise is still limited to 2 years.

While the Narzo 70 Pro doesn’t offer the best performance or a transparent design, it certainly has many positive aspects. If a good display, camera and premium design are your priority, look no further than the Narzo 70 Pro.

Other alternatives in this segment include the iQOO Z9 5G, Nothing Phone (2a), Poco X6 5G, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G.
