Review Summary

Realme recently introduced the Realme GT 6, the company’s flagship smartphone in India. This marks the return of a proper flagship phone in the GT series after two years. But is the Realme GT 6 the true flagship killer we have all been waiting for?

It is one of the first phones in India with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset and promising specifications on paper. I have been using the Realme GT 6 for a while now, and here’s a detailed review of the smartphone.

The Realme GT 6 has a massive 6.78-inch curved display with 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO support. It has the same LYT-808 camera sensor as the more expensive OnePlus 12 and offers 120W SUPERVOOC charging.

But how does the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 perform? Does the Realme GT 6 suffer from the same drawbacks as other “flagship killer phones? Let’s find out in this detailed review of the Realme GT 6.

Realme GT 6 Design And Build

The Realme GT 6 has an industrial design that looks similar to its younger sibling, the Realme GT 6T. When compared side by side, it is hard to distinguish between the two phones until you touch them, as you will notice that the GT 6 has a glass back instead of a plastic finish.

Realme GT 6 Design 1

Its rather unimpressive design looks dull and boring, and I wish Realme had opted for a premium vegan leather finish like its Realme 13 series. The back has three concentric camera circles surrounded by a stainless steel ring, and I have the Fluid Silver variant of the Realme GT 6 for review.

These camera lenses are a dirt magnet, so you will need to constantly clean your phone to keep it free from fingerprints and dust particles. The rest of the phone remains clean with minimal Realme branding at the bottom left corner, and the glossy back panel shines under light.

However, these camera lenses cause the phone to wobble on a flat surface, so you should use the included case. Speaking of the case, Realme has bundled a premium black matte case. This improves the device’s grip and provides a more elegant look.

Despite packing a massive 5,500mAh battery, the GT 6 weighs just 199 grams and is just 8.6mm thick. It is comfortable to hold in the hand, although the glass back feels slippery, so I highly recommend using the case in the box.

Regarding ports and placements, the volume rocker and power buttons are on the right.

The top has the IR Blaster and the secondary microphone.

Bottom of the phone

Similarly, the left remains clean while you get the USB-C port, SIM tray and speaker grille at the bottom. The phone has an IP65 rating for protection against dust and water.

Realme GT 6 Camera

The Realme GT 6 sports a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens. On the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. Unlike other flagship killers, the Realme GT 6 excels in the camera department.

During the day, the 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 can take excellent shots with plenty of details and vibrant colours. It has the same sensor as the more expensive OnePlus 12. The photos have plenty of sharpness and minimal noise.

The punchy and saturated colours make them perfect for social media posts. Similarly, the 50-megapixel telephoto lens can take photos with 2x zoom with great details and clarity. You can also take zoomed-in shots with 4x digital zoom; however, the photos are a bit fuzzy.

However, I would have personally preferred much higher optical zoom capabilities, with at least 3x or 4x zoom. Last but not least is the 8-megapixel ultrawide angle sensor, which is only good on paper and has a decent output compared to the other two lenses.

The good thing is that the colour processing is similar, so you are unlikely to notice any major shift in the tone. However, the sharpness doesn’t quite match that of the other lens.

The low-light shots are exceptional, and the photos are stunning even without the dedicated night mode. You also get an AI Smart Removal feature to remove unwanted objects from images, similar to Google’s Magic Eraser.

Selfie Sample

The shadows and details are well-preserved, and there is plenty of sharpness. Its 32-megapixel selfie camera can also take good photos with accurate skin tones and details. The phone can shoot 4K at 30 FPS from the front and rear cameras. You get OIS and EIS for stabilization. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall camera performance of the Realme GT 6, considering its price range.

Realme GT 6 Battery And Charging

The Realme GT 6 packs a massive 5,500mAh battery with 120W SUPERVOOC charging support. Despite being just 8.6mm thick, the phone has a larger battery than other phones in this segment.

Realme GT 6 Battery Backup

Thanks to this large battery, you can easily expect a day and a half of battery backup. My usage included scrolling through Twitter, watching videos on YouTube, taking photos and watching TV shows.

Realme GT 6 Charging

Furthermore, the 120W SUPERVOOC charger can easily top up the phone to 100 per cent in just 40 minutes. The good thing is that the charger is included in the box, so you don’t need to buy one separately.

Realme GT 6 Display And Audio

The Realme GT 6 boasts a massive 6.78-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the phone has slim bezels and a centre punch hole cutout. It has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection, so you won’t have to worry about occasional drops.

Realme GT 6 Display

You also get LTPO support similar to the Realme GT 6T, meaning the display can automatically adjust the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, depending on the content. The phone’s aspect ratio is wider than other Realme phones, like the Realme 13 Pro Plus, so you get more real estate for content consumption.

Realme GT 6 Content Consumption

Thanks to the vibrant colours on offer, consuming content on the device is a pure treat. I enjoyed watching Season 4 of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. Widevine L1 and HDR 10+ support is also available, so you can immerse yourself while watching content on OTT platforms.

Realme GT 6 Brightness

Realme claims the GT 6 is one of the brightest phones in the world, with a whopping 6000 nits of peak brightness. While this is the number for HDR content, the phone reaches 1600 nits in HBM mode, and I did not face any issues in terms of legibility, even under harsh sunlight. You also get an extra brightness option that you can enable in the settings.

Realme GT 6 Refresh Rate

Due to the 120Hz refresh rate, navigating the user interface feels fast and snappy. I used the auto mode, which takes advantage of LTPO to adjust the refresh rate automatically based on the content. There is also the option to enable 120Hz individually for every app.

Realme GT 6 Screen Resolution

For audio, you get a stereo speaker with a grille at the bottom and an earpiece acting as the secondary speaker. It also has a fast and accurate in-display fingerprint scanner for security. The output is loud enough if you are alone, but I wish it were a bit louder. Other features include an IR Blaster for controlling appliances and NFC for payments, which is a great addition.

Realme GT 6 Performance

The Realme GT 6 is powered by the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset paired with up to 16GB of RAM. This 4nm processor sits between the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from last year. It has the same architecture as the flagship 8 Gen 3.

The phone is smooth and fluid when performing daily tasks, and I have encountered no lags or stutters. Moreover, most apps remain in memory thanks to the 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM of the Realme GT 6 variant I have for review. You also get 12GB of virtual memory for expansion.

Realme GT 6 Gaming

When it comes to gaming, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 can easily handle any game you throw at it. It can run BGMI at 90 FPS (Smooth and Extreme+), and the gameplay remains smooth. Similarly, you can enjoy CODM at 120 FPS (Very High and UItra).

Gaming Benchmarks

I also tried games like Wreckfest, Hitman Blood Money Reprisal, Warzone Mobile, Diablo, and Genshin Impact. The phone did not get warm even while playing these intensive games.

Realme GT 6 Benchmarks

Regarding benchmarks, it has a single-core score of 1753 and a multi-core score of 4562 in Geekbench 6. Furthermore, you get an AnTuTu V10 score of 1440465 and an AnTuTu storage test score of 184552.

In the 15-minute CPU throttling test, the phone throttles to 83 per cent of its peak performance and has a stability score of 58 per cent in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test. While the benchmark scores are lower than those of other SD 8s Gen 3 devices like Poco F6, gaming performance is similar. Overall, the Realme GT 6 is a capable performer who can handle any game.

Realme GT 6 Software And UI

The Realme GT 6 ships with Realme UI 5.0, based on Android 14. The company has promised three years of OS updates and four years of security patches for the phone.

There are plenty of dark patterns during setup, and you get plenty of preinstalled apps, including Snapchat, Fitbit, Finshell Pay, Myntra, and Facebook. Thankfully, you can uninstall these apps from Settings, but seeing bloatware on a smartphone worth more than Rs.40,000 isn’t very pleasant.

Bloatware

Realme has introduced two new AI features in the GT6: AI Smart Loop and AI Screen Recognition. The AI Smart Loop feature lets you select some aspects of your screen, such as text or video, and share them with another app. Similarly, the AI Screen Recognition feature works similarly to Circle To Search and lets you look up things on your screen.

Realme GT 6 Features

Other features include Smart Suggestions, which can display notifications in a pill-shaped cutout similar to Dynamic Island. In addition, you get Smart Sensing, Air Gestures, Dedicated RAM for Games, Split View, Flexible Window, and Quick Return.

Realme GT 6 About Phone

The Realme UI software experience is similar to OxygenOS/ColorOS phones, with some added bloatware and annoying notifications. You get three years of update promise on par with competitors like the OnePlus 12R, Xiaomi 14 Civi and the iQOO Neo 9 Pro. Overall, the software experience is good, but the addition of bloatware and ads make it a far cry from those looking for a clean Android experience.

Verdict

The Realme GT 6 is an excellent option if you want a powerful smartphone under Rs.50,000 that delivers all the essentials. It has a premium curved display with Victus 2, a capable chipset, all-rounder cameras and a long-lasting battery with fast charging.

However, you will need to deal with the boring industrial design, the average ultrawide-angle sensor, and the lack of wireless charging. Most of these are minor cons that can be easily overlooked. The Realme GT 6 is one of the few phones that I enjoyed using during my review. It is a balanced flagship killer that offers the perfect blend of all elements.

Other phones that you can consider in this price range include the Xiaomi 14 Civi, OnePlus 12R, iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G and the OnePlus 11, which offer similar features and performance.
