WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned messaging platform published its September periodically report under the Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules, 2021. The report mentioned that WhatsApp banned over 2.2 million accounts in India between September 1 and September 20, 2021. In order to give its users a safe platform, WhatsApp banned the accounts to prevent harmful behaviour on the app.

Why WhatsApp banned the accounts?
Previously also in August, WhatsApp banned about 2 million accounts to stop harmful activities over the app. And now, after two months the company again debarred 2,209,000 accounts from its platform. Also, over the past few months, the messaging platform is working hardware to build a robust platform keeping in mind the safety and security of users.

When asked about the reason behind the ban, WhatsApp stated, “the abuse detection operates at three stages of an account’s lifestyle: at registration, during messaging, and in response to negative feedback, which we receive in the form of user reports and blocks.”
Over the years, we have consistently invested in Artificial Intelligence and other states of the art technology, data scientists and experts, and in processes, to keep our users safe on our platform” the company further said.
The accounts that went against the platform’s guidelines and protocols have been banned. Now those users will no longer be able to use the platform using their existing mobile number. Plus, to create a new WhatsApp account, the user will have to get a new phone number. However, if the same activity is repeated, the platform will ban the account again.
