WhatsApp has always upped its own game by being proactive and bringing new updates to the platform. In a recent report, WhatsApp plans to bring a feature allowing users to lock chats and keep them hidden from prying eyes. According to WABetaInfo, it looks like the feature is already available to beta users for testing. Although this is a new development, it isn’t surprising that the WhatsApp lock chats feature might be a new feature.
Recently the platform announced new privacy features for group chats and a one-time playable audio message. This new possible feature is an added bonus to the already impressive privacy features coming on the Meta-owned platform. According to the report, here’s what the new WhatsApp lock chats feature will do and how it will function:

Hide Photos and Lock Chats on WhatsApp
The feature is noticed in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.2 update available on the Google Play Store. It will be rolled out to all users in a future update. As per the report from WABetainfo, locking a chat allows only the user to access it by using their fingerprint or passcode. This security measure also makes it highly unlikely for anyone else to open the chat. However, if someone tries to access the user’s phone without the proper authentication, they will receive a prompt to clear the chat before gaining access.
By enabling the Lock chat feature, the device’s gallery does not automatically save photos and videos sent within the locked chat. This added security measure will safeguard sensitive media from getting access by unauthorized individuals. It will also ensure that only the intended recipient can view them, which can offer users a sense of reassurance.

However, the WhatsApp lock chats feature is still under development, and the release date for the same is unconfirmed. But this is a very resolute step towards user privacy the platform is taking. In addition, WhatsApp is also testing a new text editor experience for some beta testers on Android beta. This new text editor aims to enhance the typing experience and offer additional formatting options to users.
