Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100 SoC: What More?
  • Qualcomm has not been making any new chipsets as of late when it comes to wearables. Their Snapdragon Wear OS has been out of action for quite some time now. This can be due to a number of reason, the topmost being the current status of Android wearables in the market. Smart wearables are not really performing that well although they are quite trendy.

The ongoing pandemic can be blamed for this as people are barely setting out and this immediately removes the need for a smart wearable. Activity tracking has come to a halt and so has smartwatch sales. However, Google and Samsung’s collaboration for fulfilling the primary goal of making WearOS better has probably made Qualcomm consider a comeback.

The upcoming chipset by Qualcomm has surfaced online with the model number SW5100. It has appeared on the Code Aurora Forum and nothing else is known about the chipset as of now. Besides, another thing to note here is that the upcoming chipset has been spotted with the codename ‘Monaco’.

Sadly, nothing can be said about the release date of this particular chipset by Qualcomm. From the look of things, the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100 SoC just exists in codes and snippets for now. The Oppo Watch 2 was launched with the Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC and it will definitely be good to see its successor use the Wear 5100 chipset.

Coming to the Snapdragon Wear 5100 SoC specifications, it will probably come with ARM Cortex-A53 cores. However, these cores will probably feature higher clock speeds alongside a couple of minor QoL adjustments and improvements. One thing to note here is that smart wearable are not resource heavy so they can seamlessly run on old hardware. However, when it comes to these wearables, the software side of things matters the most and determines the overall experience.
