Qualcomm has unveiled its new flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, that will power upcoming Android phones. This chipset is the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from last year and uses the Oryon cores, also found in the Snapdragon X Elite chipsets. It marks a significant shift in Qualcomm’s strategy to ditch its chipset’s “Gen” branding and opt for the Elite name rebranding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Snapdragon 8 Elite Launches With Fastest Clock Speed On Mobile
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Elite uses a custom Oryon CPU that includes eight cores. There are 2 Prime cores clocked at 4.32GHz, the fastest on a mobile chipset.

Furthermore, the phone has six performance cores clocked at 3.53GHz apart from 24MB L2 Cache and support for 5300MHz LPDDR5X RAM. It is based on TSMC’s 3nm architecture and offers a 45 per cent boost in performance.
Similarly, you get a 44 per cent improvement in power efficiency over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, apart from a 40 per cent faster GPU performance, including better ray tracing support.

It is also the first mobile chipset to support Unreal Engine 5.3 with Nanite-improved geometry support. For AI tasks, you get a new Hexagon NPU (Neural Processing Unit) that can perform AI tasks 45 per cent faster.
The 8 Elite can run LLM models and small multi-modal up to 70 per cent faster. For photography enthusiasts, the new ISP can deliver better HDR photos with natural skin tones and faster autofocus.

There is also a video object eraser, video semantic segmentation and photo segmentation support. For connectivity, the Qualcomm X80 5G modem is the first to support 6x downlink carrier aggregation with AI-based mmWave extended range.
The company claims you can expect speeds up to 10 Gbps with an upload speed of 3.5 Gbps. The new FastConnect 7900 Mobile Connectivity system is also the first chipset to combine Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and UWB (Ultrawide Band) on a single 6nm chip.
Upcoming Phones To Use The Chipset
Qualcomm has revealed that flagship phones from Asus, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, Realme, Honor, Samsung, Vivo, Xiaomi and other brands will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Furthermore, the Realme GT 7 Pro is confirmed to be the first phone in India to use the chipset.
